Stacy didn't mention it, probably because it is no longer available. I think it's this one from Urban Outfitters:

Congratulations! My twins started out together but were steamrolling each other by eight weeks (even in a tight swaddle), so we moved them to their own cribs. I like the idea of mini cribs and know that there are a few affordable and attractive options in Walmart's baby mod line. Another thing to consider is the Graco pack n play for twins, which has a double bassinet and considerably higher weight limits than a standard pnp. Maybe find one secondhand to buy yourself some time so that you can meet your babies and figure out what suits them best. Good luck!

Good Questions

Kate, I feel your pain and you probably won't love my response. When we had water in our Bucktown duplex down we learned that any time the carpet pad gets wet it needs to go, as mold is a forgone conclusion. My husband (who had previously owned another duplex down where he got water) flat-out refused to put in carpet again. Since we knew we wouldn't stay there forever we went with an affordable porcelain tile and several large area rugs. The floors were cold to the touch but didn't affect the overall temperature of the lower level.

When we bought our current house we replaced the carpet in the lower level with 24" porcelain tile, which looks great. We looked into heated floors but couldn't justify the expense. You know how cold it is today, and my babies spent the morning comfortably rolling around on a big wool rug.

Unfortunately, if you have an ongoing water issue in your lower level then any carpet needs to be considered a temporary flooring option, as it will get wet and you really should replace it each time. Cork won't work for the same reason as wood - if it gets wet it's trashed. I say go porcelain or linoleum and get some nice big rugs that can be sent out for cleaning in the event of flooding. That will be the cleanest, greenest, safest option for your family.

Last year I found the M&D Cook's Corner Kitchen $36! I still get a little giddy when I think of that shopping coup, which I scored at Home Goods. I recently saw a compact Alex kitchen there for $30ish.

seattlejessica - No, it isn't extreme. I was so sad to learn that my friend's daughter is being excluded, and she told her mom that she thinks that her friend is "still working on her invitation." Believe me, her parents are going to make sure that this never happens again.

While food is typically the purview of the kitchn, I'd be very happy to post any recipes that you all may want to share. I'm thinking that this merits a roundup of allergen-free party treats.

Please email your recipes to roni@apartmenttherapy.com Thanks!

Roni here. Isn't this amazing?

brklynmama - As I mentioned, drawing materials and books figure prominently. Jack's toys include play food, legos and rubber animals, and his beloved transitional objects include a pink t-rex knitted by his grandpa and a stuffed teddy bear made by his grandma.

Sugarbakers - Jack just celebrated his third birthday.

There's more to this story that I just couldn't fit into this post - the other members of the research team, the three Masai men who live and work in the tent camp who have taught Jack spear-throwing and Moran throat-singing and whose boom box provides the Kenyan and Ugandan soundtrack for Jack's dance parties, how the family took advantage of the unique situation and got Jack successfully potty trained his first week there, how the team uses solar panels to generate power for the camp, the vaccines, immunizations and anti-malarials that the entire family needs, how Jen and Andy prepared Jack for the trip and so much more. It could fill a book.

The Britax Boulevard absolutely lives up to the hype. I got my son's on closeout at albee baby, it looks like they have some patterns on closeout currently:

As far as strollers are concerned, I have researched the subject into the ground (like embarrassing, full-on geek-out research). We had a cameleon and ended up selling it. I loved my bug but it wasn't perfect. The weight limit is an issue, it's cumbersome and bulky for storage. For your needs it sounds like the BJ City Elite would be a slam dunk. Baby Jogger strollers have more headroom than most and this model has a full recline. The one second fold also rocks my face off, and it looks like certain colors are on closeout at albee baby (no, I don't work for them, but they should pay me).

The overstock.com rug is about five years old and the activity box is Baby Style from Right Start when they were liquidating in early 2009. The store has since reopened but I don't know if they have revived the Baby Style line. It looks like the HaPe discovery boxes are similar and I think that Educo makes one as well.

The mobile is from Land of Nod. http://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx?c=1133&f=5402 Each planet hangs from its own tack, and when I saw the store display it was hung in a random cluster. We decided to convert the distance between planets to inches so that we could hang them linearly to scale. I guess that the tour could have been called "Sam's parents are nerds."

Jaime, I remember admiring Fionn's room. While Sam's room is not small by any stretch of the imagination, I think it looks larger than it actually is - 11x12'.

Hi all! Thanks for reading.

A few months ago the fatboy was listed on allmodern.com as a twilight brand discount for $50. The white parts show minor yellowing but nothing too noticeable. It is so comfortable and at that price it was cheaper than the various fatboy knock-offs. It might be worth calling and asking if they have any left in the warehouse.

The map is from National Geographic - http://tinyurl.com/33g4zby It ships in three panels. We mounted it with wallpaper paste and used painted molding for the frame.

The Park Lane crib and changing table are from the Baby Mod line, sold at Walmart. I generally don't shop at Walmart but it is great looking, well constructed and affordable. If you do an Ohdeedoh search you'll find lots of love for it.

@skraftthomas - if your baby can then consider yourself lucky. Without blackouts my son is up with the chickens. We didn't have blackouts in his first nursery, but we were in a city condo where the neighboring building blocked much of the early morning light. Now we are in a SFH on a larger lot in the suburbs; my son's room has southern exposure and the nursery we are preparing for twins has eastern exposure. Blackouts are an absolute necessity for us.
