These turned out better than I would have expected from your average AT DIY post. I like most of them, but in particular 3. Seaworthy Before and After, Musings stands out as being exceptionally good - original, and the wood grain enhances the stencil and adds depth to the areas where it is exposed. Well done.

I will agree with these, and add the unsexy upgrades of insulation, furnace, air-conditioning and toilets - when upgraded, you're glad you did them.

Agree with Jan P, but good idea about the louvred windows! Up until now, I was thinking of putting some sort of drapes for the summer in ours. Winter here has been up and down, so I'm wary of putting food out for storage just yet.

The first pic is nice, rather like it. Some of the others remind me of The Shining.

What a smart idea. And I'm so pleased to note that the colours I chose for my home appear to be in the slim fan deck.

Rosehips have tons of vitamin C. My mother always nags me to drink rosehip tea when I'm sick. Citrusy as it is, surprisingly, adding lemon to rosehip tea makes it even better.

Rosehip jam is also nice, we have it with crepes.

It's interesting, but the new handles distract, so it's hard to say, like having a plus in one column, a minus in the other, so you net zero... or even a negative, sorry :( . Plus now you need two hands to open the upper drawers. The scale of the hardware is just wrong for the piece.

I'd be curious to see the dresser with the original hardware.

I never noticed this before, but you are right, life drawings to bring a certain sophistry to a room. Considering that I'm stuck with how to renovate my 60-year-old house, I'm going to try this and see how it turns out. We did pastel portraits in high school art class - why not try again, as an affordable option?

Hint: the cheat was to trace a blown-up original, displayed with a light projector on the wall, with the paper taped to the wall, lightly in pencil, then go over the trace with the chalk pastel.

LOL, me too, with respect to the first picture. However, I've got these colours against a greige room, which makes balances these vibrant colours with a restful background. And yet, they do stand out on their own against the background. Hard to explain, but works wonderfully.

Lovely story Ruthie.

Now, do guys worry that their place looks too masculine for their (female) dates?

... So why should the girls bother to worry?

Photo 9, the turquoise bedroom: I especially like the colourful artwork hanging over the bed. Can you please let us know who is the artist, do they have a web site, etc.? Thank you. Lovely place.

Yes we pay more taxes in Canada, but guess what? I can stay home for a year with my baby. I don't have to worry about how much the hospital fees will be, and whether my insurance will cover any of it. From what I understand, Americans pay exorbitant health insurance fees, where even having hay fever will put you in the high-risk we-don't-want-to-insure-you group. And some insurance companies play dirty, finding excuses to cancel your insurance once you get sick: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100423/hl_nm/us_wellpoint_cancer. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that.

For all the guys out there thinking that women are getting away with something, think about it: wouldn't you love this for your wife and children, so that your children can be with their mother for their first year? Instead of with strangers at a costly daycare?

And finally, as a generalization, the religious conservatives tend to be Replublicans, who are most vehemently against any 'socialist' care. Honestly, where do you think Jesus would have stood on this issue? How can you claim to be faithful to God and Jesus if you do not wish to take care of your fellow man? Consider it your tithe, if you must.

The grey drawer insides just look dirty and cheap to me.

Keep your kidney, I don't want it. It's probably grey anyway. ;)

Don't you lose your coffee table when you need to use the floor cushions as floor cushions? Which is probably when you'd really need the coffee table.

You'd need to create some sort of frame/table top that encircles the cushions, to not lose the table.

I can't stand IKEA kitchen drawers because they're GREY inside. And the kid working in the Vaughan IKEA was such a turd when we asked for help, just to speak to someone who had a clue about kitchens, well, that does it. We're turned off of IKEA kitchens for good.

And they don't have a large selection. They have many sizes, but actual selection... nah.

Good grief, for $190 - you have to ask?

I must be the only one who likes this wallpaper. Depending on how she co-ordinates, she can make it work. I'm of the mind, if it was popular at one point, there was a reason why it was popular. The only question I have is how much distance is between the plate rail and ceiling? Check whether the vertical stripe will work with or against you on this. Otherwise, I do like the suggestion of papering the back wall of the cabinets.

What was that house call with the over-the-top green patterned wallpaper and decoration? Rather Golden Girls 80's (reminded me of Blanche's lanai), but they made it work. AT readers loved it, although I bet if someone had shown the papers individually they would have poo-poo'ed it. Take a look at that house call and see if it speaks to you or gives you ideas.

Good luck!

What, you didn't know about Christian Louboutin? Don't you watch What Not to Wear? ;)

Other shoemakers have started to rip off that look, so it's lost its cache. Too bad, was rather cute, now it looks slutty. But that's just my opinion.

As for the door, that's rather original ... neat.
