I agree Malibu beach is the best! Victorian homes are nice, a recent visitor of mine just loved the LA Brea tar pits beyond belief...way more than LACMA, gasp! I just went to Drais at the W, great club scene with a rooftop bar for visitors dying to have that Hollywood experience. Enmnm~ to answer your question i had the wood block and I fixed it using wood glue and wood filler. The chair in it's original condition was found without a seat. The asymmetry doesn't really bother me, but I agree it would be cool to try something with balanced legs. As for the Alice in Wonderland commment~I'm kind of flattered. In the pictures, it reminds me of a futuristic, body pillow type of thing. The idea of loneliness is so pervasive in the pics. I hate to defend my design choices...but the piece in it's original condition was very ruffed up! Once I completed a fair amount of sanding I realized that paint was the better option. I really try let a piece speak to me then go from there. I have refinished other antiques and prefer to leave them in original condition when possible. I like the idea though about using a thick glaze to highlight the texture and add depth instead. Perhaps on a future piece I will give that a try!
