first done by Diller and Scofidio (spelling?) at Brasserie in the Seagram Building in NYC about 10 years ago. If I recall, theirs is done with resin and is a single slope on either side meeting at the drain in the middle. Beautifully executed by them as is the whole restaurant.

great neighborhoods are the result of development over time - that is what creates interesting layers of building types, scale differences, a natural mixture of uses, old and new, perfect and imperfect, etc.

This project and many others like it (and becoming more common everyday) is the result of a single point in time development cycle that is responsible for everything from designing the structures to leasing the retail spaces all within one neat package to satify the bank. it is not the developer's "fault" or the consumer's "fault" or even the bank's "fault" - it is the result of creating a "product" to satisfy all these parties needs at once and it is a building 'architype' that will represent this era and will be replaced by whatever comes next - hopefully something better.

i have cork flooring throughout my condo in miami beach - expresso color, glue down. its great - my ONLY concern is that it fades when hit with direct light. the sunlight here is very strong obviously but consider that when you make you color choice. check and they will help you find a local supplier/retailer.. good luck.

i worked on the aeron for 18 hours a day for a solid year (architecture school and office) and NEVER felt the least bit fatigued. The aeron is the best chair i've ever used regularly (haven't used the others regularly) which is why i now own one.

homasote covered in your choice of fabric or blackboard paint (not sure of the actual term for this but i've seen it and you can write on it with chalk...obviously..). only restriction with the homasote is the panels can be no larger than 4'x8' so you may need more than 1. both solutions are cheap but look very clean/professional.

i'm not so sure this is complimentary - don't you think this is meant to point out how absurd it is that they (we) have 71 toasters or teapots, or dinner plates, etc to choose from... a sad comentary maybe?

i applaud them - someone has to lead these trends. by the time some lesser manufacturer knocks them off, it will be affordable to the masses - for now, it creates a dialogue and pushes the envelope of design. this has happened time and time again with companies that cater to the highest end of the market - it is one of their roles in the design continuum...
