If you think your friend would also like photographs of farm/forest/wild animals, then check out Sharon Montrose's www.theanimalprintshop.com - it was featured on swissmiss a while ago and I loved every single picture there!

@Taureg and the others who mentioned monitor and TV keeping you up at nighttime: There is a software called F.lux - http://stereopsis.com/flux/ (for Mac/Win/Linux) - that automatically tints your monitor yellow when it's getting dark outside.

Also, what hazygirl said: Experimenting with sleep lengths, it turned out that I can be a morning person. I just need a sleep length of 90 min * n to wake up refreshed (e.g. 6, 7.5 or 9 hours), everything else like 8 hours disturbs me in the middle of a sleep cycle, and I am a zombie throughout the first half of the day. Biggest revelation ever, and biggest sleep quality improvement since :)

schubLaden http://www.schubladen.de/ from Berlin makes furniture like this on demand (and it looks like the dresser in the first picture might be made by them). There are a few more pictures of other drawer solutions in their shop.

There is no right or wrong way (or time) to do something, as long as the result is the same and agreed upon. I often thought that when faced with a mess or with dirt, "clean that up" is very vague, and I've been living with quite a few roommates up to now, so know how it is to be the one saying it and to be the one it's being said to.

So @ aprilheartsaaron, I think what you wrote is one of the best advice I ever read: "to bring things up when the house is completely spotless. You can both look at your place objectively and say...'THIS IS WHAT WE'RE STRIVING FOR!'"

You're living my dream! Well, in the dream, actually ;o) House boat! Yay :o)

Since there is water all around, and different light and bad weather gives the water any color between gray, blue, and green, I'd personally go with something from the other side of the color wheel. Maybe an egg yolk orange, a really light yellow, a dark wine red, or a muted pink. I'd then paint the accents (such as the railing, window frames, steps etc) bright white or light gray.

Color examples from Benjamin Moore (since you asked for specifics): wildflowers, mushroom cap, new dawn, fruity cocktail, tucson red, geranium, ladybug red, drop dead gorgeous, mardi gras, aniline red.

I recommend banana boxes -- they are smaller in size and thus easier to carry than ordinary moving boxes. All the girls that helped me with my moves liked them.

I usually ask a local fruit/vegetables shop for banana boxes, and they ask how many I want and then tell me I can pick them up in a few days. Of course, the major drawback is that the boxes are not collapsible, but I think that the "user friendly" size makes up for that ;o)

If this is not too girly for you and you're up for some DIY (or a friend is), maybe try something like this curtain made out of felt circles: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/10/diy-project-chelas-fabric-screen.html

If you want straight lines and something to match the bed, you could go for dark wooden blinds (e.g. from IKEA).

For me, the best dish towels have always been my grandmother's -- and the traditionally manufactured ones that are available in the museum shop of Textilmuseum Bocholt in Germany (Textile museum in the west of Germany, not far from the Ruhr Area). They are sturdy and work really well (this kind of towel has always been used by coal miners).

Unfortunately, there is no English version of the page available, but here is the link for those who can read German and for the rest to look at the pictures ;o)

When I see rolled towels, I always think of a friend in school: Whenever he was daydreaming about moving out of his parent's and into his own apartment, one very important part of his "grown-up dream apartment" were always white fluffy towel rolls in the bathroom! We lost contact and I wonder if he has them now. I should investigate!

If this was my room and my aquarium, I'd build a desk all along one wall (preferably the one with the window in the middle). On the left side, I'd proudly display the aquarium, on the right side would be my computer. Below, there would be a few drawers for office items and some closed storage for the buckets and the stuff that is under the aquarium now. I'd put a comfortable reading chair and a lamp in front of the other window, and some low bookshelves on the wall where the aquarium is now.

But what I am really interested in is: What is it that your husband is jealous of? :o) I'd love to see your updated home office, maybe there are certain features that your husband likes?

I don't seem to have such a hard time throwing stuff out, it's just the "kicking myself in the butt and begin" part and then the "taking it out of my home" part that are difficult for me.

This is my first cure, and it amazes me how different everything looks when it's just properly cleaned and when I know all the repairs that need to be done (lots to do in the Bones department). They're not done yet, but just having a plan makes the world so much better!

When removing wallpaper in my last apartment (in a house in Potsdam, Germany), I found three layers of hideous floral patterns and finally, on the wall, patches of old newspaper in Gothic print from 1912.
Before wallpapering again, we wrote our names and the dates on the wall with permanent marker, in German, English and Chinese, and I hope someone finds it some day :o)
