I had this great roomie in college we NEVER fought. We shared a dorm room, but I wasn't there often. She told me one day, when I noticed all my clothes were in my laundry basket and then put in the closet, that she sees me flying in and out and she knows I'm busy (school full time and working 2 jobs!), so when I'd leave, she'd just say... "Oops! Dotsey's laundry basket exploded again!" and she'd stuff all my clothes in the basket and call it a day. When I do feel like cleaning, I don't mind cleaning up after people. I feel like it's give and take. Getting frustrated over it, if there is real effort, does nothing but cause frustration. In the scheme of things, is it really worth yelling at someone at getting frustrated by the fact that they left their socks on the floor?! Just shake your head, laugh, and toss them in the basket. Life is good!

I'm dealing with this with my boyfriend RIGHT NOW. I honestly am blind to messes; I have to take a step back and look and see if something is amiss. And even then I don't often catch it. I've had a shit ton of roomies, and I explained to him how I am before we moved in together, but he is extremely spatially aware and thinks I'm just being lazy. I am trying my best to keep the place neat; I like it neat, but it isn't easy bc he is so particular. So for all of you who have messy significant others, as long as they are TRYING, cut them some slack. It's not worth fighting over, especially if that's the worst thing about him or her.
