Love it! I did something similar for my son's second birthday. He, too, is obsessed with trucks and school buses so I collected buses and used them for decorations. I love the cake pops you made. Will be tucking this away in my idea file! (my son's truck/bus party is here: http://www.randomneuralfirings.net/totally-random/2nd-birthday-bash-school-bus-and-other-vehicles-party

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams; I believe most (if not all) of their furniture is made at their factory in North Carolina. http://www.mgbwhome.com/

My husband and I are building a house and always on the lookout for furniture to fill it (some day). We fell in love with this coffee table but think it's too long for our space. It might work for yours (but it is a bit wider than the one you're showing). It's made from reclaimed wood so it's very eco-friendly. While the material isn't modern, I think the lines on it are. http://environmentfurniture.com/collection/category/coffee-tables/eclipse-coffee-table

You could also try getting two of the Stash tables, or look for an oval ottoman or table. That shape is a bit more modern.

Another suggestion for a book-- but this isn't just ANY book. It's one you can personalize with the child's name, created by a company called I See Me. While it's slightly more than $20 ($29.95), it has great lasting power. I have given this to a few of my nieces and nephews and they loved it. If we're talking purely aesthetics, I love the look of this bumper! Nice, modern spin on the traditional bulky pads or the less-than-chic Breathable Bumper. And from a practical standpoint, I think it covers all the bases-- protection from bumps, easy to remove and wash (in small sections) and expandable sizes.
