22 years ago I moved from Maine to FL. I had a dracena I'd had for 10 years. I gave it to a good friend and he put it in his office. I was very sad. Over the years we lost touch. Last year we reconnected and I saw a picture on Facebook.... with my now 30+ year old dracena in the background. It made me feel ok about leaving it :-) How Can I Move Plants Cross Country? OH! What is the paint color of the 3rd room/slide on the linked tour on BHG? Getting ready to paint a bungalow and that color would be perfect for the living room! (thanks for anything close too.... usually use Sherwin Williams.) An Airy Cottage Remodel Better Homes and Gardens |

Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams might be a nice wall color... and a few accessories in colors that make them pop a little. A unique mirror on a wall that will reflect back into the room... lately I'm into silver-leaf frames. You've got a nice tranquil room. What's Needed in This Room? Good Questions |

Funny just did this last night - follow the link about for the Grout Chore above, then other than regular cleaning you won't have to mess with it again for a year or two, or maybe even more. It took about an hour to scrape out the old caulk and loose grout (Home Depot has softening agents to make the job easier.) Then I cleaned with bleach water, let it dry overnight, recaulked the next day and was able to use the shower that evening because I used the caulk recommended in the post. I used the painter's tape for the first time and it was easy. It's really not that much work to make it look infinitely better. How To Fight Gross Mold and Mildew? Good Questions |

Seconding Henry Sofa from West Elm. Your story mirrors mine exactly. I did a lot of research and wound up with one in Performance Velvet, Gray. I was able to buy a discontinued slipcover on Ebay in flax linen... I doubt it will hold up over many washings but it's not bad. I have 4 cats. Tried the tinfoil and sticky tape too... kinda worked a little... *but* also agreeing with the "give them something better" idea - I just started getting one of those corrugated box scratching things every couple of months (add catnip, cheaper ones on amazon.com) and they LOVE it - so far I think the problem might be solved (?) In my attempt to keep them off the sofa generally I got a can of compressed air you use to clean keyboards. They hate the sound... so I say "get down" and then spray the air near them (not on them.) Now all I have to say is "get..." and they won't go near Henry. :-) Picking The Perfect Couch: A Timeline of Couches That Didn't Last |

ah, the grass *is* always greener. I am thrilled to be renting my bungalow out, with its big electric and water bills, needy yard full of weeds, leaky garage roof, uneven heating and cooling despite all efforts to correct.... I'm happy lately in my cool little condo with a balcony full of low maintenance succulents, a fridge full of cold adult beverages only a few steps away and a short bike ride to an awesome weekly farmer's market. Great timing for this post for me - I am downsizing as we speak, although not as dramatic. Going from a 3 bedroom + large bonus room traditional house with garage and enclosed patio to a modest 2 bedroom condo with one quarter the closet space and no garage is still a challenge. Good tips! I look forward to more in the comments. One big help for me is choosing to keep pieces that are multi-function. A rattan trunk will be my coffee table, and store my linens. My biggest piece to keep is a huge china cabinet but it has tons of storage space. And getting rid of "stuff" has been very cleansing! How To Downsize Without Losing Your Mind |

I think something like this mirror (or maybe another round or oval one) http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21546195 would be cool, maybe placed a little off center of the tv, and then I'd move the magazine files and put something vertical - a tall vase with a bamboo stalk or palm frond or something with color and organic, or maybe an aloe vera or bromiliad (both easy and low-maintenance) planted in a tall vintage urn or pot - or another ceramic vessel that has or compliments the great blue colors you've already got. Or if you don't want to water it, maybe a tall one of these http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=583&f=4424 with some of these in it http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=830&f=5160 ... sorry I'm a little link happy - :-) Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Ideas for Living Room Wall? |
