Yes, you absolutely can find a potted staghorn fern for far less if you are ambitious enough to mount it. I have a huge one I found in suburban Jersey for only $15. But now to stick in on a board.... oh, and keep it alive. Spring Treat: 5 Unique Houseplants |

I do kind of think that this is a slightly snobby post, however! I hate it when someone plants a new tree or shrub and leaves the tag on forever. That makes me nuts. Dyed Mulch & Other Gardening Pet Peeves A Way To Garden |

And if it's that hot, plant a succulent ground cover like a sedum... they don't need much water at all and can take a tromping, just ask my dogs. Creeping Ground Cover Trials and Errors |

I think the areaware docks are cool and I have a similar wood one, HOWEVER! Note that it doesn't look that great without the iPhone on it. Maybe there is a solution to that, or you can be like me and tuck it onto the open bottom of your nightstand, out of view during the day. Just a heads up that it looks somewhat weird empty. Don't forget many a bad mattress can be greatly corrected with a 2" memory foam pad placed on it. We have a hard Ikea futon that is cute and covered in pillows but hard as h*** to sleep on. We add a $100 memory foam from Target (that stays in a big plastic bin in the closet) and EVERYONE that sleeps on it raves about how comfy this is. We also have a nice Room and Board sleeper sofa that inflates and I don't think it is as comfortable as the Ikea futon. Vouch for the Henry Twin Sleeper (or Similar)? Good Questions |

And don't forget you can plant peas as soon as you can work the soil... I'm in northern NJ but plan on dropping in some snowpeas this weekend. If it snows again (here's hoping, because I'm a skier!) they are hardy and stay put awaiting the warmer temps... What You Can Do Right Now in Your Garden ShelterPop |

I found an excellent 1960's / 1970's "warming tray" that plugged in and kept some savory pies perfectly warm during a toasty fireside Christmas party we had. Go thrifting! I borrowed another from my neighbor (who apologized for how "old" it was- hah! It was mod and great...) Good luck :) Best Way to Keep a Pupu Platter Warm Throughout a Luau? Good Questions |

I have to second all the sedum-love here (or third, I guess)-- I don't have particularly good drainage in one spot and yet the low growing sedum do fantastically well. Highly recommend it.... ours has a sweet small white flower and they get tromped on by kids and dogs on occasion and hold up just fine. Lots of sun a necessity though! I can't live without my Soil Scoop -- I have a trowel or 2 but this replaces that and it works amazingly well. I have had for 9 or 10 years. It breaks up roots, digs into old soil far better than a regular trowel. 11 Essential, Versatile and Long-Lasting Garden Tools PlantTherapy | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

Oh and I know from marking kids clothes with their names for sleep away camp that Sharpie stays on fairly well. There are also specific cloth markers you can buy at the fabric or craft store... Learning From the French: Cloth Napkin TraditionsDavid Lebovitz | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

We do this too but we aren't crazy purists about it-- if the napkin gets disgustingly dirty after a meal of say- tacos (!) we get a new one! :) For the most part though, the napkin stays fairly clean after a meal and we can use it for 2-3 days and then I round the all up and throw them in the wash. I have made housewarming gifts for friends with kids and have appliqued funky initials of each person on the napkins so they know which is theirs. I have a giant sign in my kitchen that my dad hung out in front of our house during the Vietnam War, it says "PEACE NOW"-- its very aged and cool and high above the cabinets... best of all it sends a strong message to my kids :) Art In The Kitchen | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

Finally made these-- very yummy! However I definitely recommend using 2 dishes for a little thinner final product. I didn't and the texture wasn't ideal, just a little too thick for a pancake. But definitely will make again--delicious dipped in syrup! Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Recipe: Baked Apple Streusel Pancake Bars |

You could even take off a small layer of the yucky gravel before adding the new. Pea gravel is perfect. A low-growing sedum would be nice too along w/hens and chicks. And I think this is an area that the water runs through and then is dry, which is why the succulents would work. I don't think it's a place for standing moisture, right?
