I wash them. I hardly ever peel them.

I have granite countertops in my rental. While it's not something I would have chosen for myself (I too prefer quartz), I love their practicality. They don't show dirt or usage, unlike my previous rentals' formica countertops. I love that I can wipe crumbs right into the sink.

I'm a huge klutz, and I haven't yet broken anything on them. For a rental, I really cannot complain.

I would also keep my eggs on the counter if I had a cute egg container like theirs!

Lovely kitchen.

Roast it before adding the water! I usually rinse my quinoa in a sieve, then roast it in a dry pan until it starts to pop like pop-corn. Then, I add water in a 2:1 ratio, cover and simmer for about 15-20 min.

Roasting brings out quinoa's nutty flavour, plus it ensures that I'm not adding too much water (it evaporates the rinsing water, so I'm adding water to the 2:1 ratio).

Does anybody know when to use a roasting pan with a lid and when to use one without a lid? I purchased a roasting pan for to roast my tandoori Thanksgiving turkey (awesome) last month, and I was confused by the lidded and non-lidded variety of pans.

My favourite spice shop (www.epicesdecru.com) sells these. Be careful! Grate it using a microplane or pound it in a cast iron mortar and pestle. Don't use any other type of mortar and pestle or a spice mill. It's very hard and it will break most other instruments.

Amazon.ca has them too (look under "Boutiques Francophones"). Perhaps you have a Canadian friend to whom you could ship?

Keeping tomatoes in the fridge (below 12C) will cause cold damage: the tomatoes become mealy.

As long as you're cooking the frozen tomatoes, you shouldn't notice the change in texture.

I'm lactose intolerant, so homemade offers much more variety than the ridiculously expensive non-dairy-based options on the market.

Ombrelle (L'Oréal) is wonderful, but EWG doesn't rate it. Maybe it's not available in the US?

I love mine. You can absolutely make your own yogurt without a yogurt maker. Yes, it's a one-trick pony. However, you plug it in and forget about it for 4-12 hours. It's ridiculously convenient, and that's why I got it.

Will your hubby let you stain them? My parents had a very similar kitchen, and they had the cabinets stained a dark brown. It kept the woody look that your husband likes, and updated the kitchen from 1989 (which is when it was built) to 2010.

My kitty used to sleep in my bed, but my partner is very, very allergic. No more kitty cuddles in bed. I miss it, but the bf's health comes first!

I'd echo what surplusj says, and add this: if you want to give, please do. But please don't earmark your donations for the Japanese disaster. Some organisations (like the Japanese Red Cross) have already said that they have enough funds. If you give without insisting that your funds go to Japan, the organisation will be able to use the money where it needs it the most.

If a bake sale helps you to raise money and connect to your community, then I see no problem with it. However, please put some thought into picking the organisation to which you will donate. Here's a wonderful blog post on the Dos and don'ts of disaster relief donations: http://goodintents.org/disaster/the-dos-and-donts-of-disaster-donations

I bring fish for lunch and never keep it in the refrigerator. It overnighted in the fridge and is usually still cool at lunchtime. No icepack, no special bag. No biggie.

That said, I probably wouldn't do it if it were 35C outside with no AC in the building.
