I love it, and I love the way the colors draw the eye to the varying surfaces -- in the last picture, standing-seam roof, wood shingles, slate shingles, clapboard, fieldstone. I also like the notion that it might give the neighbors carte blanche to vary their tract houses a bit (although other posts suggest that they're well-designed and/or well-built tract houses).

ekd, I used to live in Tempe, I'm well-acquainted with PV, I know how far $20 will get you through the Valley's sprawl, I know how meaningless corporate (and fraternity/sorority) public relations stunts like that are, and the power (minimal) of "responsible" advertising that represents a spit in the bucket compared to the rest of the advertising that beer companies put out.

So yes, that's exactly what I mean by "encouraging" drunk driving.

Thanks for the personal attack, though.

And your affiliation with Hensley/McCain?

Lots of people assuming it's "silly", but nobody (including the one who had them) saying they've tried it and it doesn't work, and in what way they don't work . . . do they push dirt around, or hold it?

I'd just leave everything as is, but get rid of that hideous orange paint design on the side that faces the living room, and hide the countertop clutter.

Some of the flannel sheets out there these days shed, and continue to do so after many washings. Not good.

It just occurred to me that Romney's house is staged for the photo shoot to look like it's on a lake -- but actually it's surrounded by a moat.

There's no way the McCains actually live in a condo tower in Phoenix. They (his wife) are worth around $50 million -- money made from encouraging drunk-driving via the ownership of the third-largest Anheuser-Busch (Bud/Michelob) distributorship in the nation. I once heard that on a Saturday night in Phoenix, 1 out of 10 cars is driven by a DUI/DWI driver.

My guess is that they actually live in PV -- not Projectile Vomit, as would make sense all around, but Paradise Valley.

I'm glad my favorite house is my current candidate's (Hillary Clinton). My actual preferred candidate was John Edwards, because I'm a Democrat, but he suspended his campaign.

I've been happy with TWCNYC in Harlem, but if I were running a business I'd pay for that and DSL simultaneously, and just switch off when there's a problem. It's a small additional expense.

Actually, it got lost in the current NY Open Thread:

I'm trying to find purple-purple interior wall paint, and can't. What I'm looking for is a 4-year-old's idea of what purple means -- the secondary color, red plus blue. Everything I've found at Home Depot (Behr, Glidden, Lauren, Disney), plus Benjamin Moore and Janovic, is either more pastel or deeper, too blue or too red, or just muddier.

Ironically, one Behr primer has a purple label that's very close to what I want, but its scanner system lands me at deep orchid or something like that--very different.

Any suggestions for a ready-to-go pure purple? I don't want to start mixing my own.

jazzybel, your 8-year-old daughter should be the one to decide what clashes. Show her some paint chips next to the chair, and also some examples of other colors that clash or harmonize with each other.

And speaking of that, I'm going to repost my purple paint question that got lost in the last Open Thread.

Those look great. A tiler and a general contractor both told me that it's virtually impossible to install the mesh-backed pennyrounds that are available today, without winding up with unsightly spaces where the sheets line up. Spacers don't work. But I was asking about vertical installation for a backsplash, which would be more difficult than flooring applications.

I don't see the point to kettles. What do they do that a small covered saucepan won't? Add clutter? Yes.

Easy to clean: just crush and melt it, then reblow into the original shape.
