The only part of the cabinets I don't like is the darker wood strip at the bottom, but I think painting them out would help a lot.

The thing that's making the room seem dull to me is the mixture of bright white and almond - that combo always makes a kitchen look dowdy, and I feel like the coolness of the lime green is making it stand out more.

I don't know what your style is, but I might repaint the walls a warmer tone (maybe tangerine?) to harmonize with the warmness of the almond and accessorize with a vibrant magenta. There was a post a bit ago with a tangerine kitchen that was awesome...

These towels from target are fun and have the color combo I'm thinking of:

I am decidedly pro-live tree - it actually seems less wasteful to me, when you consider that fake trees are made in factories and shipped vast distances, not to mention that you can't recycle them when they get old and raggedy. Also, while the live trees are growing, they're adding a positive impact to the environment (though I suppose there is some pesticide use...).

We've bought our trees from the same local tree farmers every year, and I like that we support a family business. Our co-op also gathers the disposed live trees for mulch, which is great.

I totally disagree with the artist's thesis, as well. The still frame shots of Kennedy's assassination are some of the most powerful photographic images of American history. If we are so desensitized, why not go balls out and show frame-by-frames of the Twin Towers falling? Perhaps the artist doesn't believe the theory himself...

This has got to be my least favorite house tour yet - too much stuff, too much floral... tacky and dated. I won't even get started on the poor tiger.

My own personal beliefs as a vegetarian and Palin-hater aside:

Doesn't this seem like an odd choice of decor for an office where she probably has meetings with many different types of people concerning important political subjects? I don't think it gets any less professional or more uncomfortable than dead animals on the sofa.

Guys, if you read the article they say that safety additions are in the works:

For now, Teo is a toddler and doesn't take up much room. The current solutions work wonderfully and will be even better with the added guardrails and protective elements built onto the stage. As Teo elongates, and outgrows his crib, there is enough room in the crib alcove to incorporate a child's bed.

Phase II will include a transparent low wall for the upstairs loft, a hand rail for the precarious steps/boxes up to the loft, and a media center that will serve as a partial wall for the platform area--all built by LJ.

I agree that commercially-produced muffins are awful. It's gotten to the point where they're basically oversized cupcakes without frosting.

Agreed. :)

I loooove this used as a terranium. Also, I feel like Target had a knock-off of this vase a while back, for anyone who's interested.

I just got some local maple sugar from our farmer's market. I'm thinking that a pumpkin coffee cake with maple struesel would be good, if a little "fall-ish".

This is actually something I've been thinking about a lot - my husband and I are vegan and I don't know how to go about choosing wines that play well with vegetables, especially those with a more assertive flavor.

I feel like this is equivolent to saying "Cannabalism is wrong" and then killing and eating a baby to emphasize the wrong-ness.

There are numerous videos showing what happens to chicks - why couldn't he have shown one of those???

Rockgirl,

It's not the posts about meat but rather the graphic images of the deceased animals "pre-meat", if that makes sense. I can handle a picture of a pork chop. Dead pig in a box??? Not so much.

Anyway... not trying to hijack the post, here. To get back on track with the topic:

I'd rather people participate in this kind of local, single-animal meat consumption more than the cut-off-from-reality hamburger diet most Americans eat. I feel like it promotes the death of fewer animals, and greater responsibility for the eater. Growing up, my family lived off of a single doe my dad had hunted for an entire year. It's the same idea as growing your own veggies instead of shipping them in from Chile.
