i just got back from a two day trip up to brooklyn. i decided to take the train in since it was just going to be my daughter and i. i had absolutely no problem traveling all around the city with a stroller, one larger bag and a smaller/purse essentials bag. i too always take a carrier in the stroller just in case. i have a bugaboo bee and it is lightweight enough that carrying it and my 21 lbs 13month old up and down the subway stairs was manageable. when i got to brooklyn a guy actually offered and carried the stroller up the stairs. i was able to go to restaurants with the stroller. we also had brunch at an outdoor cafe which was ideal for the stroller. i hope this helps and that you have a great time Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Good Questions: Tips for a Stay in the City with a Toddler |

I love this space! So inviting. I really wanted that rocking chair for our nursery... it was the coolest one out there, but alas, I didn't buy it for myself. It's designed by Frank Reenskaug, for Brahmin. Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Smaller Cooler 2009: Roan's Former Factory |

we have a ton of shady areas around our house and we've grown some beautiful plants there. gardens can be interactive without being edible! it's just fun to watch the plants grow and change. Hostas are great in the shade, bleeding hearts, stella de oro, foxgloves... etc. you can go to your local nursery/farmers market and ask around for tips also.
