What about a toilet paper roll holder? You could hang it on the wall in your bathroom. You would be using it, which is of course what your friend had hoped for, and it can help you avoid those "on the bowl without a roll" moments LoL How Can I Repurpose a Yoga Mat Bag? Good Question |

We use corn litter, and I have to say that I LOVE it! It clumps very quickly, and very well, and makes clean up so easy. We only need to use a little bit (less than 2in), and it lasts for about a week and a half. Also, it absorbs the smell (we mix a little bit of pine litter in to help even more with the smell). So if paper litter isn't for your kitties (we have a very picky cat who will not use the box if he doesn't like the litter), try corn for another eco-friendly alternative! My first chore of the morning is always feeding my cats. One has meds that get mixed into the food, so it takes a bit longer. Then it's changing their water, refilling their dry food, and then cleaning the litter box. Since I too am self employed I understand how easy it is to put off other chores.... I will admit that I currently have yesterday's dishes in my sink and a mound of laundry that needs to be done :/ What is Your First/Last Chore of the Day? |

Unless it's from The Cheesecake Factory (so many delicious flavors!), I always make it. I know lots of people think it's difficult, but after making one or two it becomes a second nature. For convenience I do tend to keep ready made crusts on hand (got a bunch on sale a few months ago), but if I want a larger cake it's still insanely simple to make. Make or Buy? Cheesecake |

My mother has been using peppermint oil with success. She soaks cotton balls and places them around the house in corners, and also made a spray with the peppermint oil and water to spray around outside. So far it's working (and she had quite a few mice), and a bonus? Her house smells amazing! Help! How Can We Stop the Mice Invasion? Good Question |

My mother has always done this, though she also uses them to scrub the pans with. She loves those Purex 3 in 1 sheets, and after they come out of the dryer they go into a small box to be used in the kitchen for cleaning pans. Clean Baked-On Gunk from Pans with Dryer Sheets |

My fiance and I are in the process of working through all our stuff and keeping only what we love and need. It's tough, and it's slow going, but in the end I know how good it will feel to have a less cluttered home. Summer Update: The Living with Less Project |

One item that I always pack with me is a bar of laundry soap. That way I can pack less, and wash clothing by hand in the sink to wear again. If I can find a washing machine, even better, but this way I can be sure of having clean clothes without bringing half my wardrobe with me. 5 New Tips To Help You Pack Light |

Love this apt. Reminds me a lot of our place - a fun mix of all things that make us smile. I love when other people realize their house doesn't have to match perfectly to look good. We also have the same rug from Target as they do in the living room (we found it on Craigs List and fell in love) Stacey & John's Crazy Quilt of An Apartment House Tour |

My favorite recent find was my Le Creuset oval dutch oven in red for $10. No chips, in perfect condition. I've been coveting this item forever, and now it's mine. :) Also got an authentic black leather Coach purse in terrific shape for $1. It was a good yard sale day :) You Paid WHAT for That? I completely agree with this post. My fiance and I try to live green, and a huge part of that is using items that we already have rather than buying new ones. For example, we could go out and purchase a great new eco-mattress, but that means that our current mattress goes to the landfill. I believe a big part of green living means not producing more garbage, which I feel a lot of these home shows and the like forget about. When time does come to replace items that get broken, that is when you need to seek out those green alternatives. Until then use what you have. I saw the picture and immediately began craving currywurst. I spent time in Berlin over a summer, and when I came home everyone laughed at me when I mixed curry and ketchup. Poor people, they never realized how tasty it is. The only thing I brought home with me was a pretty scarf, and a bottle of curry for "pommes" :) Beer with Dinner: The Basics of Pairing Beer and Food Beer Sessions |

Looking at the list, I see many things we already live without. I stopped buying plastic wrap years ago. When we really need it we use foil, because at least it can be reused and recycled. Plastic bags I admit we use, but I've gone through maybe two boxes of ziplock freezer bags in the past 2.5 years. Mostly they are for freezing sauces and meats. Dishwasher we don't have, and my hair dryer I rarely use. I would add clothes dryer and sponges to the list - we don't have one, and though I do borrow my grandmother's for things like towels and sheets, everything else we hang on a dryer rack. And I would give up using a dryer completely if my landlord allowed us to hang laundry on the porch. Instead of sponges I bought dishcloths. They have a scrubby side to them, so they work well, and it is nice being able to wash them. No stinky sponges, and for the few dollars investment (I got 4 for $2 at a discount store), it is so worth it. 10 Household Items You Can Do Without—Really! |

I will admit, I do this to a point. Nothing extreme like they do on the show, but I do get the coupon inserts from several people every week. I then go through them, and the flyers, and I will buy most items that I can get free or extremely cheap. My fiance and I don't eat much processed food, but we either pass it around to those we know who are struggling with money, or we donate it to a local food pantry. We do keep a 6-month stockpile of personal hygiene items, but other than that and coffee, soup, and canned tomatoes (I put them in everything LoL), we don't stockpile foods at all. I LOVED the food when I was in Belize! I was there teaching at a summer camp, and ate with a host family every morning, so everything was homemade and soooo good!. Fry jacks were my favorite food I had while I was there, with the potato salad a close second. Looking for a Great Refried Beans Recipe Good Questions |

In college I had a single room, which was an 9x9 space. I lofted my bed, and managed to fit a couch, my fridge, and a microwave underneath. I also had my desk, dresser, TV, and a plastic set of drawers in the room, and I always felt I had plenty of room. We even had parties with 5 or 6 people in there! I am in the process of doing this, and I cannot believe how good it feels to get rid of some stuff. I actually just washed all my old towels this morning to give to my mother, since they are still in great shape. They match her bathroom, not mine, so there was no need to me to keep them after I bought new ones. We also only use one, sometimes two, towels each a week, so when I bought new ones I only bought 6 instead of the 8 I had before. That way I still have some for guests and emergencies. I have a few, but thankfully I have learned to eat them in moderation. I love any of the non-chocolate sugar candies, like sour patch kids, blow pops, and laffy taffy (there is ALWAYS a stash in my cabinets). I would love to have one of these. I am in graduate school, and print out around 100 pages a week to read. I would read them on the computer, but I am a commuter, and tend to do my readings on the 2.5 hrs. a day I spend on the train. This would be terrific. Not only would I help the environment, but I wouldn't have to worry about what to do with all these articles at the end of each semester.
