This looks great but I find it hard to believe that it is cheaper than granite. (Getting my granite countertop was cheaper than formica from Home Depot.) And granite is not overrated.

This proves the more important point: it is truly unnatural to share one's bad with dogs or humans.

Ripe Papaya.
Obnoxious.
Although the green papaya shredded into Thai style salads is okay.

Cringe. This is sooo corny. Anyway, everyone knows that the only love notes you should leave are those chalky candy hearts with writing on them.

Not exactly a cooking mistake but .. .The Russian deli up here in Washington Heights sells pitted sour cherries in large plastic containers. Yummy. I bought one, took it home. In the middle of the night, I wanted a snack of partially defrosted sour cherries. Put some in bowl, nuked it in the microwave for only 19 seconds. Took a mouthful. Tasted sorta funny.

Turns out that the Russian deli sells chicken hearts right next to the sour cherries. Bleh.

Am I the only one who has gotten something lovely (and reasonably priced) at ABC in the basement? I find I could bargain. (So did my neighbor.)

In Melbourne, I picked up the habit of not peeling kiwi. The first time it's a bit weird. Then it isn't.

I use an ordinary small ramekin from William & Sonoma and use it to hold a good bit of the Maldon's. I like that salt; you can really feel each flake and it crumbs easily.

I recently had a nice gyoza made with tofu, a bit of pork and a LOT of dill. The Chinese export mucho crayfish to Sweden and the Swedes have obviously now left their mark on Chinese cuisine.

I have a piece of coral in the soap dish and one in the toothbrush holder. One piece is punctuated with a red glass bead.

Re: "the books might be concealed behind cabinet doors."

I think it was Mies van der Rohe who once said that any interior design that could not incorporate books was innately boring at best and frightening at worst.

I can't imagine using this Dyson in a truly small Japanese apartment --say 9 mats or so. In my own smallish Manhattan apartment, I am very satisfied with my little green cordless Shark.

What SputnikSpak says is true. Humans were made to squat.

When I came back to USA-land, I found for the first month or so, I had to perch like a little birdy on the toilet seat. My Korean friends say that when they came back here to graduate school after summer vacations back home they had to perch too. Tweet tweet.

In my first apartment in the Korean barrio of Osaka, I had only a WC but no bath at all and went most nights to one of the local sento (public bath). The hottest water found outside of a geyser must be a soaking tub at a sento.
