Typical "railroad" apartment..very common in New York/New Jersey. My husband and I had the exact same dilemma when we were expecting a baby. We took a chance, and asked the landlord if he could install french doors....and he did! He viewed it as a good investment and way to keep good tenants. How Should We Hang Room-Dividing Curtains? You'd be amazed how much "stuff" you really don't need for a baby. They grow out of it all so fast anyway. Diaper genie is just one example. We had a diaper dekor that we ended up using as a recycling can. Start a college fund instead! Do I Need a Diaper Pail? Good Questions |

I also think your kitchen is cute. The cabinets and the blue paint look to be in good condition, but not the carpet. Add red accents (towels, pottery, artwork, whatever.) I couldn't tell if you had a double sink, or not. If you do, you could get an in-sink dish drainer to free up some counterspace. Tips on Rescuing a Rental Kitchen? You can afford to replace it with similar quality...if you look on craigslist. Find a leather couch so your partner will like it...but in color that coordinates better with the yellow. I see brown and white leather couches like this all the time. Or drape washable blankets or a slipcover over it. Try off white. How Do I Make My Big Green Couch Work? We have been bringing a sock puppet along with us for 5 years on every trip. Started out as just a sock off my own foot, but I eventually added button eyes and a nose. Our daughter LOVES to talk to sock puppet and show him everything she sees/does. He's always a special treat and she looks forward to traveling with "socky". You "chain" together curtain hooks creating an extension for any curtain of any regular size you like. Invest in a few packages of matching or coordinating shower curtain hooks and have fun. Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Advice for Rental Bathroom? |
