by half-@$$ed, i mean that I haven't given up beans and potatoes.
I'm allergic to everything... so taking away more foods from the few I can have to begin with is just too much.

On Saying No to Paleo: Why Eating Isn't One Size Fits All
5/24/13 4:47 PM

I do what I call a half@$$ed Paleo diet!
I cut out breads and grains - when I did, for the first week and a half I thought I had a flu bug. My stomach hurt so bad.
Now I realize I was addicted to bread! Once I detoxed from all the bread and genetically modified grains... I feel great.
Now I no longer pass out on the couch every evening after work.
I have more energy.

I've decided I'll have bread here and there -- it's not like I can NEVER eat bread or corn again. But I've learned that when I do... I am so crazy tired, it's not worth it!
I ate two donuts one day (they were a treat at the office) and promptly went home and velcroed myself to couch for the evening! NOT WORTH IT.
but then, donuts are never worth it.

#6 is counter intuitive but true!
I have the Soho sofa from Z Gallerie in a very small living room.
when it was delivered to replace the old loveseat I had in the space, it took me about a month to get accustomed to the size - worried it was too big for the space - until I got used to it.

My mom came to visit for Mother's day, and her first words upon seeing the living room were, "The whole room looks bigger!"
I didn't realize it until she said it, but she's right... it really does!

Moving: What Do You Do When Everything Goes Wrong?
5/3/13 7:17 PM

When I first moved to Denver, I lived with relatives in Lakewood/Golden (suburbs, one might say) for the first few months... and it just never felt right. Too quiet. In fact, I was deciding that I didn't like Denver.
Then I moved downtown, in the Cheeseman Park neighborhood (just two blocks from the park) When I was settled into the tiny little apartment on the second evening there, I suddenly felt a sense of peace wash over me... "Home" I thought. That's when I realized I could hear a helicopter buzzing over my building. That's what felt like home.
I hadn't put it together before then, but in my last two cities, my apartments were either in the flight path for the hospital - or the flight path for the police chopper.
Previously in Omaha, I could hear Able One (police chopper) take off every night just as I retired to bed - to start it's nightly rounds, and it became a comforting sound, like a lullaby.
So when I was making an offer on my condo in Denver, near the hospital - and I heard a Life Flight Chopper pass over, I knew I had found my home!
That hospital has since relocated, and I don't hear helicopters on the regular any more, but it was a gradual weaning.
Occasionally, I hear one on the way to the other hospital and it always makes me feel at peace... and I say a prayer for whoever it is arriving for emergency care.

The phrase "nitty gritty" just bugs me - can we please phase it out of our vernacular? Please.
Do you know that "nitty gritty" was originally a reference to a woman's pubic area, particularly in a derogatory reference to black women.
Please think when you use words.

Love it. I especially love the fabric.

When I saw the before, I actually said out loud, "Oh, this is going to be good!" Thanks for meeting/ exceeding my expectations. They're beautiful. I'm envious.

Oh, the party box!! I just call it the party closet!!
Mine is less about decorations and more about party supplies.
I keep a bunch of supplies in one of those tubs used to chill drinks.... BBQ Skewers, checked table cloth, those spikes that go into the ground to hold your wine glasses and a bottle of wine, outdoor silverware --- that sort of thing.
Then along side it on the shelf is my flat of wine glasses from World Market, stacks of dessert plates (I refuse to use paper plates.) and other party-having-supplies!!

Pi - I think she's saying Tiffany blue seems feminine to her because it's associated with jewelry. So she liked the femininity for a girl, but didn't want to put a boy in a Tiffany jewel box - girly-looking room.

SisterVashti -- I may have a solution for you.
I have two closet doors in my bedroom, on the inside of each I have installed a big strong coat hook. They serve multiple purposes, one, I take the hanger off the rod when I choose something to wear, and place them on the hook so I never have to scrounge for empty hangers. Also, if I wear something that doesn't need to be washed, I hang it back up and store it on the hook for another wear.
I also use the hooks to plan outfits for the next day. Or, post-laundry... items that need to be ironed go on the hook until I have time to iron. That way I'm not planning something to wear, only to find it needs ironing.

Hope that helps!

Where did the space for the bed nook come from? Was there a closet behind that wall?

I must be another with no imagination, because I couldn't figure out how they made the kitchen bigger - I thought that closet was the door to the outside!!!

@mginwa - Well, people have different ideas of what is comfortable.
My ex-boyfriend had a giant green marshmallow of couch, that was not only ugly (in my eyes) but it was so poufy and smooshy, that I couldn't be comfortable on it. I'm a small person, and I always felt that part of poofs were pushing my head forward... (like the headrest on airplane seats - horrible!) and my feet couldn't touch the ground because it wasn't form-fitting.

My couch is a Midcentury Modern style... streamlined and firm. I can sit all the way back on the seat, and nothing is pushing at my head and messing up my hair. He would hate it!! He would think it was too stiff and that the back is too short.

I don't think there is a such thing as a universally comfortable couch.
It's the same reason there hundreds of kinds of running shoes. Not the same for everyone.

Now, let me tell you about my office chair - that keeps sending me to the chiropractor!!

I find it SO annoying when I go to shop for toys as gifts only find the toys completely separated by gender! It just ticks me off.
I was fortunate to grow up on a ranch, surrounded by animals, tractors, tools and rough stuff - even with my mom as a housewife, doing the cooking and cleaning.
Of course girls are going to imitate their mom with play of household chores and cooking... but thank God I had a brother and got to play with toy cars, trains, tractors and loaders and blowing stuff up!!

I'm not a mom, but if/ when I have a daughter, I don't want any pink crap infiltrating my home (until she asks for pink herself!) Yes, I personally hate pink and that's my thing... but shouldn't we have more selection? These days why should anything but tampons be for girls only?

Bottom line (if I may)
As a food allergy sufferer... my preference is that my friends TAKE IT SERIOUSLY, BUT DON'T MAKE A BIG DEAL.

It's not hard to offer one Allergy-Friend-Friendly dish.
I have made up a set of business cards (vista print) that list my allergies. Wait staff in restaurants always express appreciation for the cards. They can confer with the chef/ cooks and verify easily.

My close friends all have a copy of my allergy card. Not to go out of their way to accommodate me, but to help identify what I should avoid in their spread.
One friend is particularly happy to accommodate me --- says my restrictions are easy to avoid... and when preparing something, she can easily determine if she can leave something out (say, eggs - not often, they're often intregral - tomatoes, sometimes not always.) Then she can assuredly tell me what is ClickChick-friendly and what isn't.
