I had a really offbeat wedding (there was a working train made out of barrels...don't ask...) but I definitely agree with most of the etiquette rules above, especially not including registry info, and getting your thank you notes out quickly!

Any time I've received a wedding invite with registry info included, I've chosen not to attend. And I love to give gifts! But to include that info is CRAZY tacky. Put it on your website!

My maid of honour wrote a note on our site saying that while we weren't registered anywhere, we were working on fixing up our house, liked to travel and loved art, especially pieces made by people we love. This resulted in us receiving beautiful one of a kind, thoughtful gifts that truly make me think of the giver every time I use or look at the gift.

In regards to thank you notes, I think it can be a chore, but it's not really an option. I enjoyed doing mine (there were about 100) and I sent them off within a week after the wedding. I kept hearing about how nice it was to have received a thank you note so quickly, from our folks' friends and older family members especially.

I'm sorry, but these are painfully ugly. Really.

I recently started buying Behr Premium Ultra and it seems kind of incredible to me. It's got amazing coverage and really covers up bright paint easily. Here are some photos of my formerly-insane bathroom, bright yellow and very dark blue, repainted with very pale shades from Behr. http://bohohouseandhome.blogspot.ca/2013/01/ive-finally-started-project.html

It's available in Canada, too, but only in stores, it can't be ordered online.

This article appeared in my Facebook newsfeed literally the MOMENT that I sat down to the computer after losing out on my dream house, and it took me now to comment. Talk about timing!
I wrote about the dream house here:

and followed it up a couple of days later with the loss of the dream here:

Hi JnJ

I work in retail, so my boss let me take them home from work. You could find somthing similar at a retail display store. I believe ours originally came from a store called WR DIsplay (http://www.wrdisplay.ca/catalog/) but you should be able to Google retail display + the name of your city and find something similar.

I'm in the process of staging my overly-funky house for re-sale, and just put up a pretty sweet entryway system. http://bohohouseandhome.blogspot.ca/2013/02/before-and-after-foyer.html

I've also been working on the bathroom and it's pretty nice, too!

My husband and I have separate bedrooms, because he snores and is a human heater. We also have different sleep habits/schedules, i.e. he often falls asleep before 10pm and gets up at 5am, whereas I'll read in bed from 11-1am and get up at 9. This way we don't resent each other for keeping one another awake, or disturbing each other's rest. It's definitely an arrangement that works for us. It's also really nice to have a space of your own. My great-grandparents also had separate rooms and I always thought that was cool. They were very close, but also liked their own space. My best pal and her husband have separate rooms as well, but most of my friends feel that they couldn't sleep apart from their partners.
