We did a dresser as changing table so it has all the clothes, etc, also in it along with diapers, creams, etc. Definitely worth finding some sturdy thrift furniture if you can - we took my husband's childhood furniture and painted it and added new pulls from Anthropologie for my daughter (who is due on Saturday!).

Also, as for art, i love love love Blik stickers. www.whatisblik.com ... lots of fun options and they can be removed/moved without damage. My son loved his zoo animals (placed near the dresser where we changed diapers most often) and now we moved them to my daughter's room and have gotten my son a new design.

If you have an active moms group in your area, this is a great way to get loads of second hand baby stuff and also a great place to later on unload said baby stuff when you no longer need it.

Good luck!

I have weaned myself off caffeine 2x now for 2 pregnancies and I found it much easier to do the slow wean. i moved from full caff to half caff for a few days to 3/4 decaf to no caff. It's hard at first but you will feel much better when you are done. I did drink decaf throughout and have developed an immunity to the flavor of it.

Unfortunately after pregnancy i have tried to stay caffeiene free but it hasn't worked... 8/

Pasta with fried eggs - just brown some garlic in olive oil, crack a few eggs in and toss with just pulled out of the water linguini, top generously with grated parm. Sometimes needs a little spoonful of pasta water so it's not too dry. love love love this dish.

Will second the recommendation to try sheep or goat's milk cheeses as they are sometimes tolerated where cows milk isn't.

Dave's gives a kick-@ss course in fresh pasta making (among other things) and it really is pretty easy to do. Hardest part is rolling it out. I think you could make your own fresh pasta on a sunday and freeze batches for use during the week.

We are grateful to have Dave's right down the street so we take advantage of their delicious options regularly.

Have also done this with the parsley, and also a saffron flavored pasta. I've wanted to try more combos but since having a baby all that pasta-making free time has gone out the window!

Our cat is too chunky to get up on the counter with any regularity (sounds like he may have some 'big boned' pals out there!) but he will make the effort to get up there if we have any fresh cut flowers, and in particular he goes nuts for baby's breath (no idea how that came about). So we have to put books/bags/etc on the bar stools so he can't jump up on them to get to the flowers.

With regards to food, he definitely gets extra affectionate when the refrigerator is open, etc, loves the sound of the can opener, but mostly it's meowing and pawing at our legs. If i want him to stop pestering me, presenting him with a half of lemon or some other citrus usually works really well.

I will say though that any plates left on the floor/couch/ other easily reachable places have been hard to keep him away from. I once fell asleep on the couch after having some bone-in chicken for dinner (in front of the tv) and when i woke up my kitty had dragged the carcass across the room and was happily chomping away. Lesson learned...

I bet you could baste them with a little butter and sprinkle with some spices (parm cheese, garlic salt, dill, curry powder, etc) and they'd be very tasty. I think i would definitely opt for baking them.

I also add the bread soaked in milk. And i make them with (dark) turkey meat, or all lamb, or all beef/all pork. Lots of variations. I've never used rosemary or paprika but I do add fresh parsley and a generous amount of grated parm.

my nutritionist was thrilled when i told her i hate fruit juices of all kinds and never drink them. She definitely recommends not drinking the calories. Eat the fruit itself, you're better off.

Really good for flavoring steamed artichokes. Add some chicken broth, onion and lemon juice and a cheese rind or two and it's a delicious broth!

My hubby and I usually freeze the tomato pulp. I highly recommend you invest in a food mill - or tomato mill - they have a cheap one at William Sonoma (Less than $30 which is cheap for WS!) that works great for tomatoes. It removes the skins and seeds so you can just store the pulp for sauce. It is invaluable for large batches of canning/freezing. You run the tomatoes through 2-3 times to get all the pulp out but it goes fast and is much easier than trying to remove skins by hand.

I wish we were having a bumper crop this year. seems like everyone's lost theirs (including us) to blight this year in the Boston area.
