I seriously don't understand the idiots who think their irrelevant "critiques" are enlightening somehow. Dirty pot bottoms = sign of an excellent cook. wabi sabi. Get over it. Personally, I like track lighting because it casts interesting shadows, which (in my opinion) make light interesting. How To Install Track Lighting & Improve Your Kitchen |

Why are Joe and Jessica's designs overlapping? It's too late now, but I think it's better to space out the graphics. Maybe next time there can be a downloadable image of a bag (an outline of a bag would do) for contestants to put their designs on. That would force a more consistent resolution and provide a way to display the designs with enough spacing. And voters will get to see what the design would look like on a real bag. I liked a lot of the designs from Pt 1 - 5 (Joe's too) - serious eye candy. But I have to agree that Jessica's is really appropriate because the utensils are in an apartment. What distinguishes AT : the Kitchen from other cooking blogs is that it's affiliated with AT and interior design. Utensils, vegetables, etc. on their own could represent any cooking site... imho Apartment Therapy - Apartment Therapy Market Bag: Time to Vote! |

I think gold and plum can pair nicely, but solid plum on a heavy fabric overpowers the pattern in a gold - you can barely see the details. I would instead use a white towel/rug set. The left side of the room looks matchy-matchy at eye level (second pict) because the mirror reflects the shower curtain. Maybe put a glass vase with blue-purple flowers where the green frame is right now. Good Questions: Is My Bathroom to Matchy-Matchy? |

I worry that there isn't enough room to pull out your desk chair. Since you're getting a sleeper sofa, you probably should make sure that there is room for the bed. I like labchick and svetla's solution. By the way you can special order Troy full sleepers. Good Questions: Does My Room Flow? |

I gotta say, a lot of "green" posts on AT disappoint me (I'm sorry! I like the design-related ones!). Like a lot of readers have already questioned, why are plastics bad? First of all, let's not generalize because there are so many kinds. Also, we can't forget how useful they have been for mankind. Yes, there may be health hazards depending on the type of plastic and how it is produced. This is true of naturally occuring materials as well. In fact, certain types of plastics are used in laboratories and hospitals because they are bio-compatible. Monsanto House of the Future |

Wow!! What a refreshing space! I'm amazed by how uncluttered it is. How do you guys organize cables? I don't see offensive power cords. Love the credenza. Is there any hardware on the front panels to help it slide? Or is it unnecessary? House Tour: Polly Ben's Sherman Oaks Shangri-La |

hmm... the chandelier appears too high in the top photo because the top half of chain is cut off. It looks fine to me in the second photo. I guess I don't think the chandelier is a major problem. Choice of lighting is a matter of taste. I think a bolder or brighter rug will make the biggest difference, but maybe that's a matter of taste too. Anyway, the room is lovely Carrie as is - I hope you're not getting paranoid. Good Questions: How Can I Tone Down this Room? |

Hello. I love the wall colors, and I hope you don't change the seats! It sounds like you've already invested enough on those two elements. Like others have already suggested, I would work on the other two basic pieces - the rug and lighting -before tweaking details or adding accessories. Personally I like the rug the least. It needs to be brought up to the level of the walls. Good Questions: How Can I Tone Down this Room? |

How about a house warming party where friends bring their favorite books? That would make a special collection and it would be fun. Good Questions: How To Start a Book Collection? |

I won't judge. I would also suggest the Penguin classics collection if he just wants to read (rather than collect). It could be like a library. Good Questions: How To Start a Book Collection? |

I'm really glad some action was taken. I was concerned about the growing negativity on AT. I think the small button is a really creative solution. In the meantime I don't think it's appropriate to name names and guess who might be banned. I think that's kind of mean. AT on: Commenters and Banning |

re: For reasons no one wants to discuss at length, toilet paper is pretty crude technology, and it doesn't do that great a job, while creating unnecessary additional paper waste. TOTO Washlet |

I'm surprised that there are design-savvy AT readers who don't know about washlets yet. TOTO is a Japanese toilet maker. This should explain a lot (including the weird ad). The Japanese are obsessed cleanliness. Wiping with paper is not considered clean enough. The auto open function is a luxury feature but has been also useful for the disabled/seniors. The Japanese are also obsessed with water conservation. Dual flush and dual use of water (wash hands with clean water before it gets used to refill tank of toilet) are also common features of Japanese toilets. TOTO Washlet |
