I agree with the suggestion of the IKEA Hemnes dresser. My friends have this dresser in their master and it looks much better than more common IKEA bedroom furniture (i.e. Malm). There's a reason when you're on a budget you stick to budget friendly outlets for furniture such as IKEA, craigslist and thrift shops! Clothing Storage Suggestions Under $300 (No Ugly Dressers!)? I recently purchased my first home and painted my master "man cave" by Allen & Roth (Valspar signature match)- love it! It's a perfect charcoal gray with any significant undertones one way or another. Paint Color Portfolio: Charcoal Bedrooms |

In my opinion, simple white dinnerware is the best investment you can make. I have pieces from Target, IKEA, C&B, and thrift stores that are all simple white and while I know they are all from different stores they all go together as if they were a set. I will only ever buy white dinnerware! Budget Basics: Simple White Dinnerware Shopper's Guide |

What about a roman shade? I live in an urban area and my front door is the 9-pane where it's half door and the top half is glass panes. I added a roman shade from JCPennys I purchased a few weeks ago (cheapest roman shades I could find that still offered a privacy backing) and I feel so much more at ease. It's also cute from inside and no one can see in through the door. Ideas For Covering Window in Door? Good Questions |

This is really helpful as I'm currently fawning over this bed online! I previously had an similar style bed (it had a curved iron though on the headboard and footboard..circa 2002-ish). I craigslist'd it and got the Ikea Hopen frame two years ago which I love as well, although a pain to put together (major understatement!). Now I'm in the market to replace my current full size Hopen with a queen and new frame and after reading reviews I'm 99.9% sure this is what I'm coming home with. Gotta love AT for posts like this! As for if I lose my keys, my mom who lives about 15 minutes has a spare set as well as my upstairs neighbor/best friend. What funny though is that in our rowhouse (4 apts total) I have keys to all the apts. Apparently they all agree I'm the most responsible and believe it or not there have been several instances of others locking themselves out of the house and their apt and I've had to get their spare from my apt. Like @SherriEakin said, I'm a big proponent of painting something myself. I also don't have the budget to afford alot of the originals I see so I've just adapted to making things myself. I agree-these are great suggestions for both college students and even recent grads (like myself) who aren't ready/don't have the money to spend on items that probably cost a months rent. Items like the Lack shelf (love that!) are great pieces for the interim. Noone expects them to last forever but they give you something nice at an affordable price until you are more settled. Tipping movers? Yes. But I would never tip a plumber or electrician. I also agree with what a few others have said about tipping getting out of hand. I'm a generous tipper and even better about spreading the word when I receive really good or really bad service. I see no reason to tip a plumber or the like. @pier723 - I also have my tv/sofa set up the same way and it works well for me since I like to lay down and watch tv at night. I also like that it takes away the focus on the living room being for tv watching and allows me to configure my sofa and chairs in a way thats better for guests. I have been thinking of doing this in my bathroom! My house was built in 1890 so there is *no* storage especially in the bathroom. I'll definitely be going to my local hardware store in the next few days to put one of these up myself. Perfect place for storing extra towels! Over the Door: One Often Overlooked Place For Storage |

I think @shannonashley has a good suggestion with the bamboo roman shades to cut down on the light. As for noise blocking, my suggestion would be thick drapes of some kind. How to Create a "Door" in Noisy Loft? Good Questions |

For me (no central air and I live in the South) its about sleeping nude and taking a cool shower before bed if its particular hot that night. That combined with a perfectly placed fan and I'm quite cool and find myself hugging blankets when I wake up.
