When Do You Consider A Place Move-In Ready?

agree if a cat wants to eat a plant, it's tough to stop them. I had a cat scale a bookcase to get at a christmas arrangement someone had sent...he was eating the pine branches! putting the plants where they can't get at them without pain is really the only way.

sadly I think most Americans expect a full size fridge, even when as many pointed out it's absolutely not needed.

I love tins!

Agree with some of the others, you can get very pretty tins for very little or free. I drink a lot of tea and have tons I use for storage of nuts, candy as well as tea. Thrift stores often have nice ones for very little and they are great to pick up on trips outside of the US, either sold empty or with tea or other foods. World Market has nice ones as well, and you can find them for a song on ebay.

#7 is brilliant. I bought a specifically made magnetic pencil cup for my fridge but this is much cuter.

I have done #9 with some Harrods tins. Just be careful handling because the metal can get very hot.

I don't have a problem with #1 if its a great deal-that said I only subscribe to one and got some ridiculously cheap sample shoes with it. however the other 4 I have used a lot over the years and agree, just shopping at a thrift or for laundry detergent or even a non-homemade lunch can get rid of the cravings for shopping.

BUY A LIGHT TIMER RIGHT NOW

I don't know why it took me so long to invest the few $$ for such an easy and effective home protection.

Disagree about leaving curtains normal. Why do you want to advertise that there is no one walking around inside? There may be some situations where you want to leave these normal but most of the time it makes more sense to keep them closed.

agree about moving in a small console type desk under the window with a chair that can do double duty as desk AND extra seating-move the blue chair to your bedroom as a reading nook if you have room. That way you aren't losing any seating but now have work area.

this is good but the most important is CHECK POLICE RECORDS for the area, sometimes just looking at some of the major streets in the neighborhood gives one a good idea. also believe what you see. We saw what appeared to be a drug deal at noon and after some review of online crime stats realized that was the least of the troubles in the neighborhood!

Look forward to the fact that windows and doors will open and close more smoothly, faucets will generally work and not break off in your hand, not to mention functional plumbing and lots of light.

I grew up in a gorgeous old house but have always chosen to live in modern buildings because I like things to function properly (and I'm not at all handy).

If you fill even the coldest modern space with personal and vintage items, you forget the box and just see the home.

on a similar note, I will grab interesting business cards and other advertising for places I've been. I've stuck these into little frames for kitchen magnets

Also scarves-they are generally useful right away and lightweight to carry.

Finally I have a "tin problem" but I drink lots of tea so use them for storage. They are generally cheap and can feature really pretty scenery of places I've been.
