I *do* live in Kansas City and have pondered doing just this. After a stint in AZ (which is rife with TJ's) I grew to love a few staples and the low low prices at TJ's. Of course, when you get down to it it's not really worth the trip just for groceries. On the other hand, if I ever happen to be visiting a place with a TJ's I always stock up on my favorite non-perishables. Sigh... I just hope that one day they build a TJ's here in KC! My H and I have a very stylish looking bottle of Remy Martin with the tax seal still intact from 1978. We are guessing it's either amazing or completely disgusting, but don't really have the heart to break the seal after all these years. Does Liquor Ever Expire? The best toffee I know of comes from Vern's Toffee House in Fort Collins, CO. See www.vernstoffee.com for more info. My grandma used to buy boxes of it around the holidays when I was little and now that I have grown up and moved away I am still the lucky recipient of this amazing toffee now and then. I always do tacos with rice. Cooked 1 cup raw white rice in 2 tbsp butter until golden, add 1 can (14.5 oz) chicken stock, 1 tbsp chili powder, 1/2 tbsp garlic, 1 pinch cumin, 1 pinch Mexican oregano, 1 bay leaf. Bring stock to a boil then reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook 15 minutes. Let rice sit an additional 10-15 minutes covered and off heat for best results and remove bay leaf before serving.
