If you like the vintage style stoves, I recommend checking out Bertazzoni.

Their stoves make fire and have a light and a fan - there isn't even a clock. And they're absolutely gorgeous. Painted in the same factory that paints ferraris and mazeratis, if you're looking to sell a car-fanatic on the idea.

I do an apple tart with mascarpone. It works great too.

I like this idea for my bedroom, but I think the snaps would be a chore. Any ideas from the hivemind about other ways to secure it?

I have one of the old silver ones, and I love it. It's not trying to be real. :)

Sun dried mother effing tomatoes. It's my favorite way to class up Kraft macaroni and cheese, which is a guilty pleasure I've had since the fourth grade.

We have a bunch of these - they are definitely meant to be bare bulb. As in, "Look, Mr. Haverhill, we just had the house WIRED with that new ELEC-TRICITY. Doesn't it just appall you with beauty?"

You don't have to get an expensive bulb. I got a few white tinted bulbs at the Home Depot, and not one has burned out yet.

There was also a bare fixture in our bathroom, and I got a larger sphere bulb to put in that, and it looks marvvy.

Good luck!

Cambridge and Somerville are awesome if you're just out of college and don't mind living with a lot of hipsters who don't know who the mayor is. I loved it, but it isn't called "the people's republic of Cambridge" for nothing.

Definitely get something on the Red Line if you can, but don't limit yourself. Don't be afraid of Dorchester. You might want to get a few month sublet someplace inexpensive, like Quincy, and from there figure out what neighborhood really works for you. Also - you'd be picking up a lease in January. It's a nastier time to move, but there may be more options than in October, which is still near the studentoverload time of the year.

When my mom's KitchenAid mixer's motor burned out, customer service told her that their warranty didn't cover commercial use, and she said, "I know." After an awkward moment of silence, they replaced it for her.

She loves to cook.

For the Tempurpedic you're going to have to borrow one from someone who already has broken it in - it can take a month just for the chemical smell to go away.

As someone who bought one and isn't happy, I'd love to hear your review. For me, it's too hard, and I have trouble with my arms and even shoulders getting pins and needles unless I sleep straight on my back. Ug.

I think this looks more faux-easy than it really is. I like it, but to get that clean scalloped line at the top, I guess that she probably took the time to go over her edges with a paintbrush, making sure everything was two coats. And painted a large part of the upper wall with ceiling white beforehand.

I bet making mistakes with this method takes just as much time to touch up as a traditional line. I would love to save time as much as the next person, but painting a straight line in a corner is something you can get good at. And that will save you time.

It doesn't look too bad, but then again, I just discovered that the walls in my vintage-teal-fixtured bathroom were once bright pink. I shudder to think of having to live with that combination, teal tub, toilet, and all.

The one bit of advice I'd give you is that if you can't remove the fixtures, you have to work with them. We got a great mod shower curtain that worked well with the teal and the place looked a million times better right away, because we weren't fighting the teal or trying to hide it.

Of course, fun mod retro was sort of in our style area, so it wasn't too far of a stretch. But still, I think it's better to have something with some style that all works together than try to force a style that doesn't fit on the underlying stuff you can't change.
