Go with artists you like or, failing that, a classic "guy" solution is to frame tour posters from bands you like (a lot of serious artists do great posters - i.e. http://ihrtn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Shellac-Tour-Poster-4.jpg or http://www.cotygonzales.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/poster_2008-08-22.png) two or three will make a great display over the headboard.

This is the reason I've held onto my palm pixi for so long- sure it's slow, but its smaller and slimmer than the iphone and fits perfectly into my hand, and works fine for email. I'm waiting for a similarly sized phone to hit the market so i can upgrade though :(

I'm a lady who loves loudspeakers- but i keep them tucked into the credenza, neighboring bookshelf and on either side of the seating area.

I grew up in an dinner table kind of family, but now- whether we cook or get take-out - most nights me, the bf and his son throw floor cushions around our huge coffee table (as opposed to our tiny kitchen table) lay out a big spread, flip on the tv, and watch jeopardy while we eat. We try to answer questions, make fun of Trebek, talk and relax. Usually dinner lasts a couple of hours as we switch programs, play video games, work on homework, drink wine (or sierra mist for the kid) and generally spend time together. I'm certain that my bf would go along with it if i lobbied to spend dinner around the table, but we'd also be done in less than an hour, with everyone hopping up to do their own thing afterward. I prefer spending a 3-4 hours together each night, with no one in a hurry to go anywhere.

@MelanieQ - Don't sweat trends- dunno about anyone else, but my comment was about the proliferation of granite as the only desirable countertop surface by people who demonstrate a shocking lack of knowledge about any other home-related issues (ie- watching first time home buyers poo-poo butcher block and solid surfaces because they aren't granite- even though solid surface countertops are just as durable, and butcher block has been proving itself useful for well over a century now!)

IMHO, granite is really useful for countertops, but builders tend to slap on any color and grade granite they can find- regardless of whether it truly complements to kitchen. Find what type of surface works best for you, and if you like the look of granite, go for it! It's so useful and durable that I doubt it will look dated the way laminate surfaces do today.

Now that I'm a granite apologist, I will say that despite their drawbacks, i love slate and soapstone counters, and envy your kitchen redo budget!

The super easy option would be to ditch the rugs, switch out hardware, strip the border and paint. I'd say the easy option would be to reface the drawers and door for your cabinets and replace the mirrors with something more modern (or even just painting the frames black instead of white.) The hard option would include putting up new light fixtures (those aren't too intrusive, but they are kinda ug) and replacing the shower door, or just taking it down and putting up a cute curtain. The super-hard option would entail popping a hole into that bulkhead to see whats in there and if you can knock it down and patch the drywall.

This compilation is a little weird-I dont think there were any comments calling the Conan guy 'hot' they just noted that he looks like Conan.

Other furniture placement info would be helpful- but at first glance, I'd pull the chaise out and swing it around in front of the TV to face the rest of the sofa- and pull the two sofa seats into the are where the chaise currently resides so you get a little corridor of space adjacent to the front door for people arriving and leaving.
