It is a Hemnes, but they stopped making that style ~3 years ago.

Ditto the request for the source of those wall shelves- I had a similar one from ikea years ago- and they're really great all-around shelves for anything and everything.

Looooooove your living room- those windows make me swoon!

If you're looking for something inexpensive for Chibi's hay/pellets/etc, I'd suggest a long low Trofast bench from Ikea- if the cage fits on top it would be reasonably unnoticeable - three deep bins fit in those benches- hopefully enough storage for his stuff!

What is this???

Close-ups of a PB&J, a remote control collection, and a toilet bowl/dirty bathroom tile? THREE photos of the inside of the refrigerator??

My 76 year old grandma put up every curtain rod in her entire home, I should let her know that she's "pretty handy around the house".

Yeah, I should have clarified that I was operating on the assumption that the heater was fixed, if she CAN move it I'd probably do something like this: http://imgur.com/nFv6h

How about something like this: http://imgur.com/3Hwnu ?
You would have to keep the left hand kitchen door closed, but that way people sitting at the table can interact with anyone sitting on the couch and everyone can see the TV if you're watching a game.

Dear lord! I could cut the condescension with a knife!

It's as if this project could be the first time in history that a child survived to adulthood with the looming deathrap that is a window seat in their bedroom! Not to mention the curtains- didn't this woman know that the moment you find out you're pregnant you have to rip all the curtains out of your house?? And geez- who puts a LID on a toy storage box? It's like giving your toddler a guillotine... too bad no one has invented any sort of safety latch that could be affixed to doors and windows to keep children safe.

I also think it's also safe to say that (despite one poster's preternatural sense of interior design) a toddler isn't going to critique the decor for not being tailored enough ;)

Sarcasm aside, this is a super cute project, love the dreamy paper lamps. The only suggestion I'd make would be to play around with trim on the other edges of the box to help it blend in to the the other woodwork better.

I think many of us have brought up having a second means of egress not to conform to building codes (which are different from place to place) but moreso because it's a common-sense safety issue. If everyone is asleep when a fire starts, it's easy to miss early warning signs, and become trapped in a room- having an opening besides the doorway will save lives no mater what country you live in!

I agree with option #3- close off the kitchen bar and put a wall across that end of the lounge. A bedroom REALLY needs a second means of egress in case of fire; and you can tell your brother that the stipulation of getting his own room is that he has to keep the floor clean enough for people to get out to the balcony!

@Drops of Jupiter: In the U.S. senior citizens (age 65+) receive a modest retirement income (based on taxes paid during their lifetime) from the social security administration. It's intended to supplement a pension, but since the economic crash, many older people rely on this income alone.

I've always thought this type of implant was a cool idea (this isn't the first magnetic subdermal I've seen- though the one I've read about was in a fingertip, and allowed the owner to sense power fields when fixing computers or other electronic devices) but I agree with Seanirl, the pressure on the skin layer seems like a great way to help the magnet unsheath itself.

The "no lighted screens" seems a bit control-freaky to me... why agree as a group to turn the brightness on everyone's phone screens all the way down? (Or maybe do like i do at the movies when i slip my phone into my hoodie and any texts get sent/read by sticking my face down into my neck hole...

My tip: If your friends are prone to the occasional impromptu sleepover, and you have the floor space, it can also be nice to just drag out the air mattress for people to lounge on while watching the movie.

If you are in the process of buying a bed then I would just get one with a high-ish headboard and push it so the foot is against the windows and the headboard hides the actual bed. Nordli, Nyvoll, and Malm are some good ikea choices.

How Can I Create a (Semi-)Private Bedroom? Good Questions

I *tried* banning my dog from the furniture when I first adopted him- I grew up in a family where the people usually sat on the floor while the dogs sprawled on the couches, and I was determined to have a "proper" house when I moved out on my own- considering that my dog was a newf/chow mix, I knew keeping up with pet hair was going to be formidable task. My resolve lasted about 4 months, until the first chilly fall evening; in the 7 years since, any time it falls below 50, the pup keeps me warm while lounging around. The only rule I've managed to stick to is that hes not allowed in the bed- my allergies and love of clean sheets prevailed on that one. He has his own bed at the foot of ours, but still pokes his face under the blankets to wake me up if i dont have breakfast ready by 6 sharp!
