Oh dear lord, the photo geeks are out in force! I think the goal of this post is to give a brief tutorial on how to make sure your photos accurately represent the color schemes of your interiors, and how to polish up candid shots- people will occasionally stand near a light source, and if you're photographing the moment, then yes, that is a perfectly acceptable place to photograph them.

Cute little redo, normally I'm not a huge fan of granite for granite's sake, but this slab is really gorgeous. I do have to agree with other posters - ceiling height cabinets would have been a plus, the molding is a tad overpowering for a relatively compact space.

@canadianmango:
I totally understand the size of the medicine cabinet- that's the predominant size at big box stores, and if they're sticking to a budget, it would be the best looking of economical choices. Personally i'd add a few shelves over the toilet, but the extra storage could easily overwhelm the openness they've achieved in such a small bathroom.
Overall it's a great mini-reno- I'd LOVE to see the rest of the home!

Rugs rugs rugs! A big thick one for the living room and another in the hallway. You can also hang a thick curtain behind your bedroom door and pull it shut when sleeping or studying.

My years spent as a bartender taught me that you really only need a few gallons of hot water to wash and rinse- just use the two sink system (seconding the dish pan suggestion for those with single bowls.) The water may look dirty, but as long as its suitably hot, the dish soap will keep working for an entire sink full of dishes. A bowl of rinse water instead of rinsing under the faucet is especially useful for cheese graters and colanders.

I know this may not be comforting to AT readers, but most white tail deer do retain their speckles for quite awhile beyond fawn stage- they're still juveniles of course, but they aren't at the "helpless baby" stage any more, and size-wise, aren't that far off of the adults in the group.

Off hand i'd guess Danish, since the curves suggest a Finn Juhl-esque piece. Great find at any rate- I'm not even into MCM and *I'd* keep it!

One of the few trends I can really get behind- my kitchen is up for a re-do and I'd love to try this, but am having a hard time committing since my enthusiasm for it seems to completely obliterate any ability to be rational about whether this is a simple fad :(

I consider myself medium thrifty- I love free things, am not above garbage picking and frequently peruse both the scratch and dent section of ikea and craigslist, but i buy some things new as well:

Second hand: Trash-picked patio furniture, desk and bankers chair. Free hand-me down dining room table, gorgeous kilim rug from a neighbor, coffee table, side table & armchair, $100 dresser from CL and $100 for an oversized armchair + ottoman.

As-is at ikea: $40 night stand, $75 each for a tv console, bookcase and (replacement) coffee table, and a bed frame for $100.

New, but on sale: $600 sofa, $90 bookcase, $500 mattress. And soon a $300 armchair on clearance at pier1.

Not on sale: Kitchen cart for $100 and soon a new sofa for $1200-$1500.

Dang- so many backhanded complements!
I think it looks nice as hell- looks like a smart and clean re-do for a standard builder-grade kitchen.

Very cute, color done right, bright, airy- but I really would have preferred a shot of the apartment from the opposite wall of the living room than the picture of your cat's food.

I admire anyone who can live in 188 sq ft! But I do agree with the poster who suggested mounting a shelf above the window/sliding door- it will open up the space a little more, and you wouldn't even have to move any artwork!

I've never dealt with cream ceilings, but live in a brown stone with this exact type of trim just under ceiling height. Our walls are more brightly colored, but when i did the ceiling, i painted it all down to that trim. Could you scrape a paint chip and match the paint down to the trim and then finish the walls off with white of whatever color you'd like? I think once you get an exact match on the ceiling tiles, you can lighten it a shade without looking off.

One other idea: If you are alright dividing up by year, you could use a glass-lid tea box like this: http://tinyurl.com/cs7548q and etch the appropriate year over each compartment, then mount it to the wall.
