Latest Comments...

Gosh, the comments are still rolling in. Many thanks for all the lovely words, everyone. Here are some responses to specific comments and questions:

@sdrouble Your idea of a rug in front of the sofa is a great one, and generally we have a white flokati there that looks brill. But these pics were taken in the middle of a serious heat wave, hence the banishment of the flokati!

@inkoeht The artwork you see on the wall between the bedroom and sitting room is by South African artist Kevin Brand - a birthday gift from Paul to me. See more of Brand's work at http://www.bell-roberts.com/?artist=22

@peggy and @kushkush The thing you see in pic 32 is at my studio, where I've stored all my empty postage tubes (for ceramics and decals) in a window space. It's gradually shrinking as I post things off, unfortunately, but it's interesting to see how it changes.

@aligator You have a sharp eye! Yes, that Vegemite was a recent gift from Paul's cousins who were out visiting from Western Australia in Feb. Nearly finished, sadly enough.

@guava3 All our curtains are vintage fabric finds. Also quite rare to find around here, but I do keep my eyes peeled.

Once again, thanks for all your lovely comments!
xx

He he, so nice to see the friendly enthusiastic comments (thanks a lot), and funny to see all the less positive ones too, esp the one about everything looking like it's ready for a tag sale. That's because most of it was found on a tag sale!

Couple of questions to follow up on:
@Sarah8Parker The thing hanging on the door is something my husband made for me - a kind of shoulder bag woven from polypropylene rope

@chicagosue Our cat is called Nanook. There's a little siamese who lives with us too, called Monkey, but she spent the whole shoot under the bed! I wish I could print on organic fabric, but I'd have to import it from China as there's no local supplier, so instead I support local cotton mills.

@luckylife2009 The pitcher and mug are decorated with my ceramic transfers, and are part of my Frankenflowers series - a very irregularly-made and occasionally sold range of ceramic mugs, plates, etc. I made the pitcher esp for a shoot for ELLE Decoration.

Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone!

Thanks for all the lovely comments. It was great having Lily coming around to visit!

Just to answer a couple of questions:
@Trumystique: The red lamp was spotted in a junk shop. I thought it was a Jielde when I bought it, but it turned out to be a lot less high end than that!

@KidMoe: You're quite right about the bed. We don't have IKEA in South Africa, but we really fancied that bed. So Paul drew it up (and changed it a bit) and got some welders we know to put it together for us. It's really fantastic!

Actually, I misrepresented Paul's DIY skills when chatting to Lily, forgetting that apart from the bed, he's made a lot of our furniture, including the chair in the bedroom, bookshelf and the side table in the lounge.

Hey, how nice to see my sofa here! It looks a little different now that we've reupholstered it, and the cushion mix has shifted a little too.

@Chris, it looks a lot like an Ercol daybed, but I do believe it's a fake, as they generally don't have a middle leg. Nonetheless, it's beautifully made, and exceptionally comfortable too.

What a beautiful place. Loved reading about it, and thought that what they named as their biggest indulgence was delightful too.
