I would absolutely be tempted to buy a house just for a book exactly like this.

My favorite was Bunny Williams's room. She is a real pro and I agree about the importance of being in the rooms. It is so different that I will never read a shelter mag in the same way again.
Tied for first was that incredible kitchen: a whole area for espresso!! Seriously though half the experience was the interplay of textures. I'm working on an essay about it for the Jewish Press.

I am dying DYING to learn how to embroider. It looks so easy in Amanda Soule's book but I think I need someone to actually teach me.

We got the Me Too seats for our twins and it worked for a bit but we had to move them around for diff feeding configurations (depending on if one was feeding two etc)
In the end, I got two Ikea high chairs that are cheap and lightweight and never looked back. I can easily push them to the kitchen if Im cooking or the living room if Im relaxing (as if)

I don't know about friction but as a younger mom (I'm 25 and expecting my second and third(twins)), I feel occasional envy towards those who are already established in their careers and are better off socioeconomically though my husband and I are both quite educated. I also think that I'm as ambitious as anyone though I try to be laid back for my kids' sake.
That said I do feel fortunate to be a younger mom in terms of energy and fertility. I also think it is, will be, nice for my kids.
My mother had me at 21 and finished grad school after having 5 of us and its worked out for her.
I guess its less conflict than my own comparisons and complexes.

I know this will come up later but I had to comment on today's House & Home article about decorating trends.
In a nutshell, it saddened me. Yes, antlers have been overexposed for a while as have suzanis but isn't bringing good decor to the masses the MO of publications like Domino? Why is Needleman admitting defeat?
B/c I am addicted to shelter mags, design books and web-sites like this, I consider myself someone prob more exposed to good design than the average American but that doesn't mean I have more to spend.
An example: I saw a Moroccan wedding blanket in an issue of Living Etc about 2 years ago that I fell in love with. I spotted it as a trend in the making, I am seeing it more and more but I can't afford one and prob won't be able to until it catches on more and someone reproduces it at a lower price point. At that point, it will be almost over.
Do I sound like a fashion (design) victim? Maybe but what Im trying to say is that when something new and beautiful catches my eye its frustrating that I have to wait until everyone else loves it too until I can afford it. Thats when I really look like the victim of the newest or not so new trend.
Most of the time I just skip it altogether which I guess is less consumerist anyway.

Oh, P2, I'm so happy to hear your suggestion. I appreciate all the ideas but I had really been thinking of a silvery, gray color (the aesthetic in the current West Elm catalogs, say) and had begun to doubt myself.
Tips about lighting anyone? Thanks again.

I love the home--not a surprise because I'm a big fan of the website but it must be difficult to keep all that hotel silver polished.

Nobody's mentioned yet the live/work space in San Fransisco--I found that inspiring. I love stories with morals about how design really makes the world better. Plus, it didn't seem like he was trying to gentrify the n'hood for new pple so much as improve it for those who lived there.
