"Real books don't ned batteries, software upgrades, can't be made to disappear at the whim of some bean counter or corrupt judge, and will still be redable hundreds of years for now."

Its hard to argue that paper books don't need batteries, but I will argue about the readable hundreds of years from now. Its true we have plenty of old books today in readable formats, but todays books are not being published in the same way - I am no expert and you may know more on the topic - but my understanding is todays books will last much shorter for various reasons then books hundreds of years ago, we do have digital technologies with estimated lifespans much longer than that (although you'd be right to say the old books are still here, we are only guessing at the digital).

One other thing is I thought I'd say never to e-books myself and just now I am slowly being converted over to e-books, just ordered a new kindle after borrowing my girlfriends for a while. Its not the same as a nice paper book, but when traveling its nice to have a few with you without thinking.

Don't forget one time paper was a new technology, as was the printing press and likely upset some people just the same.

I reluctantly hung my tv over my fireplace after a year of it sitting on a coffee table, I got a 42" tv which is a tad big for my small place and in the end I was gonna have to get some specialized furniture to hold it and fit it into the alcove to the right of my fireplace, my girlfriend suggested hanging it but I thought that was tacky, but did a test run w/ it sitting on my mantel and while it was an adjustment to the angle I got used to it and like it. The hardware to hang it was only $80 at costco and while it was a pain to install it looks good i think also I should mention that the fire place in my rental is not usable so no heat issue to deal with.

I think the issue with some smaller older places is that the rooms naturally focus on the fireplace wall and its the only way I can really setup a tv of any size.

internet music stations seems like another great use, or have your car radio download podcasts etc. on the go

Seems that there are plenty of reasons for cars to have wifi, we just have to work on making sure they don't distract the driver.

I gotta disagree having had both the Brita and the Pur I determined I like the taste of the Pur better, although this aspect may very with local water supply (didn't have problems with the Pur slowing down that others have had although my water pressure is good). Also I didn't like the switch on the Brita, which was the first of the units I used, it is really small and was the main reason I switched to the big old style Pur where you swiveled the whole head, then later when they had the other Pur version at Costco w/ three filters I picked that up and couldn't be happier. Either way, since I don't like ice cold water these are way better for me then a pitcher version.
