I'm going to reorganize my kitchen a bit...reinstall pot hanger so my whole family can reach, refit the cart/island so it no longer slants, get a butcherblock for that cart so it can be used as part of prep/triangle; and clear off counters in preparation for getting new countertop/new cabinet doors/new flooring (which are longer-term, more $$$ goals).

@katiejean and @Shiaparelli -- yes! your ideas of rewards (spa and bath) motivated me to get through this task with a glass of wine in the tub as my reward!

veggiemar, I too miss the 8-week cure. If the shorter Cure is the new way, then the daily tasks need to change to manageable bites (eg. clean out your refrigerator, vs wash and declutter your fridge + every kitchen cabinet; eg. sort out one bookshelf vs declutter and eliminate books, music, movies, games and magazines). I was super motivated until the tasks became two-week jobs; now I'm doing my own thing and not all that interested in following the Cure program anymore.

My way of keeping motivated is to follow my own list of tasks for the balance of the month, and do what I feel is a realistic my-Cure.

The kitchen task will take two full weeks, not just a weekend. I'm going to tackle small feasible parts of it (eg. two shelves per day or two drawers per day), and save time and energy to make a meal AND enjoy part of the weekend, rather than burning myself out trying to clean out all the cabinets at once.

This exercise was hard - like others, I find it hard to sit still, and once I see what I want to change, want to action it right away. The message for me is that I have to work on my internal scatter at the same time I'm working on this external scatter. A good lesson.

thanks AT, I enjoyed doing this Cure. Each week was a good combination of the hard work of purging, cleaning, organizing, with the fun, creative parts -- picking out paint colour, setting up the office, cooking something nice, and FLOWERS! congrats to all!

Thanks for the inspiration! I went through my movies, books, CDs and albums, applying your tests, and have three boxes to donate to a yardsale my office is having to raise money for Christmas hampers.

Our media collection vice is LPs. I have 2000, my partner has probably at least another 1000. It's a constant struggle to keep the collection organized, tidy, and pared to things we most want to keep.

Still, I feel after today that our living space is clearer and nicer to be in. We even sat down this evening and watched a movie together, which we haven't felt inspired to do in some time.

Thanks Mexifro and Alana, I ended up getting a nifty used shelf unit with little slidey doors to hide some of the stuff (bins of keys), a basket on the bottom shelf for all the dog's accoutrements, and an open shelf in the middle for the books and videos that we don't want to pay late fees on. Once I figure out how to post a picture I'll do so...thanks again for your advice!

OK my partner and I have a dispute about Week 3 - Landing Strip. I say things need to go into baskets and drawers (eg drawer for returning videos, library books; basket for gloves, umbrellas) so our entry isn't completely amok; he says if things are put away he forgets about them. Has anybody resolved this dilemma/dispute?

Happy Week 2 from Ottawa! cheated & started on my kitchen as I'm out of town for work this upcoming week. Cleaned the fridge, countertop stuff and oven with salt and vinegar, repainted the walls & made a big pot of soup. Purging a bunch of drawers today. I'm going to donate some pots & knives we received as presents, and never use, to a women's shelter. And some nice tinned soups and pasta to our food bank.

Florence Anne, I use scrap wallpaper to line drawers & cupboards. It's effective & pretty.

I have about 2000 LPs, and tend to bring 5-10 more into our home each week. I've become much less attached to books and other media, keeping a small number of each and giving away most. But culling my vinyl is tough...made worse since when I'm ready to eliminate some albums, my partner will go through them and add them to HIS collection....so it ends up taking a tour of our apartment but never leaving....sigh...
