buisinessgypsy: maybe I should have picked something less provocative. Perhaps Goya's The Clothed Maja (no need to disrobe), Warhol's Campbell's Soup (kitchen cupboard), Monet's Haystacks (the front yard after mowing the lawn), anything by any Dutch artist, ever or, simply your pick of still lifes. To those who feel that it's necessary to remark sarcastically: who said anything about 'installations' (artistic, political, sociological, architectural, landscape...) having to be uniquely disconnected from other 'realities'--be they sublime, fanciful, natural, even mundane or ugly? Not all installations or statements need to (or should) be as blunt (or populist) as, say, Robert Indiana's LOVE. To make a statement on the essential value of material and its natural decay (physical, chemical, sculptural) or to simply exploit the fact that each pile has a unique color, texture, rate of settlement, etc. is actually quite brilliant in a society possessed with the need to process, manufacture and consume at an enormous rate. It's likely they went for 'the limit'. If anything it showed just how much cooler that surface was. Perhaps the flame wasn't 1000 degrees C but hey, try doing that with anything else. Aerogel Becomes Affordable as a Home Insulator | Apartment Therapy Unplggd |

Sam Adams just started brewing an Imperial stout that is very similar to Brooklyn's Black Chocolate, my favorite locally available beer. It has a very Sam Adams feel to it (difficult to describe but that musty, sweaty, heavy bitterness) so if you like Sam Adams' various brews you're likely to enjoy this. Slightly less alcohol and a lot less alcohol feel than the Brooklyn. Very good. Warm and Toasty: Best Beers for Holiday Parties Beer Sessions | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

I'm not quite sure whether this was an issue of the syrup going bad or being contaminated 'in situ' but a few months ago I went to use some pure first-run syrup (purchased by the gallon a few seasons ago) and found that it was black. Like, Black Gold, Texas Tea black. And it smelled like a smelting furnace. My hypothesis was that the steel jug had rusted/oxidized/whatever and contaminated the syrup either with tiny mold spores (enough to make light amber syrup look like Guinness) or the color was due to the rust itself. In either case I had to dump about a quart of expensive syrup down the drain... Maple Syrup: Does It Ever Spoil? | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

Oh, I LOVE rambutans and though I associate them with Malaysia I suppose Vietnam makes as much sense. I have only ever seen them once in the states, though. mmm. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Look! Food Flags For The Sydney International Food Festival |

An absolutely brilliant small-space solution. I love the bed scrim (though I would probably opt for a flat screen-on-wheels for my entertainment needs) and the dining area pendant is wonderful (I'm a sucker for bare-filament). Though I prefer freezer on bottom for all the reasons above, the most efficient design is actually the top-freezer design for the very reason CLARITYK cited: cold air falls. Top freezers benefit from using a single chiller that cools the top compartment well below freezing and then use passive circulation to allow some of that cold air to reach the bottom compartment. this looks great, but you know you can soften [old] brown sugar just by putting a fresh slice of bread in the container for an hour or so. It'll soften right up. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Baking Tip: Make Your Own Brown Sugar |

I've never heard anyone say that American cheese had gumption. Or, for that matter, bothered to wax on the merits of its "freaking cream[iness]" perfectly pairing with the "meatiness of the burger and the salty crunch of bacon". Come on. At some point you just gotta sit back and realize you're eating the same thing that a trillion people before you have eaten and just simply enjoyed.
