I'm a little confused -- the post talks about an almost souffle-like dish that involves a couple eggs. Of these recipes, 2 do not have any eggs at all and only the Food 52 recipe includes 1 egg.

Does that mean that only the Food52 recipe has the described puffing effect? Has anyone tested any of these recipes?

Great tips so far -- many thanks, everyone. Although @kwhit9tl, I had read that the Georgetown D&D was closed down a few months back due to a vermin problem so even if it has reopened, I'd prefer to avoid it.

I think herms is over-thinking the term 'overbite'. The author doesn't seem to be referring to a dramatic misalignment of teeth that we think of today when we hear the term, but merely the fact that, when you close your jaw at rest, your upper teeth extend past your lower ones. That doesn't sound ridiculous at all, but explains a pretty simple evolutionary change.

I'm curious too about using agave or honey instead of the brown rice syrup. Not trying to be difficult, that just happens to be what we have in the house. Is brown rice syrup as sweet as the others? I'm just trying to figure out if using agave would make these sickly sweet.

I know this has been around for a while but I made this dish last week and feel compelled to comment. We haven't seen kale yet at the store so I made this with swiss chard. Ohmygoodness. I thought it was good but the recipe made a lot and was worried I'd be stuck eating the whole thing myself as my fiance refuses to eat cooked greens (bad spinach/artichoke experience years ago). He called me at work last week to say "I don't know what this quiche thing is in the fridge but it's one of the best things you've ever made and we need to have it all this time". Can't say I disagree.

Worth noting that I had the same experience at a Harris Teeter in DC. They will replace all torn, old, and generally beat up bags for free as they have a lifetime guarantee.

My friends just brought up some moonshine from Tennessee along with a bottle of raspberry lemonade. Mix it all up and drink in a tall glass loaded with ice. Delicious!!

I lived in Morocco for 6 months and still regret the things that I did not bring home (and trust me, I loaded up on souvenirs). Next time I'm there, I'll buy a tajine (I'm sorry, but the Le Creuset version doesn't count), another tea services and I'll make sure to stock up on spices.

While we're on the subject, I got my boyfriend a kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop (a good friend and my brother both had used them before with rave reviews). I'm really excited for us to make beer but I have no idea where to buy the glass bottles. Any ideas?

I love a good bloody mary but if you're serving vegans be careful with the ingredients. I'm a carnivorous fiend but have to be careful with vegan/veggie friends to avoid ingredients like Worcestershire sauce, clamato juice and obviously my fav bacon strip garnish.

My boyfriend and I usually keep it simple -- get all of our crap in, crash on whatever piece of furntiure made the trek and order thai food.

His aunt however introduced me to her family's Ukranian tradition when she came to our last housewarming. It involves giving the new home owner (/renter) bread, salt, wine, and sugar. Bread -- that this house may never know hunger, salt -- that life here may always have flavor, sugar -- that your love in this home may always be sweet, wine -- that there will always be joy.

She took some liberties with the gifts (zucchini bread, fancy hawaiian salt, godiva chocolates) but the idea remains the same. I've decided I'm adopting that as my own tradition because it was just that lovely!

Maybe just because it's kind of common place, but I'm shocked that curried deviled eggs didn't make the cut. I always use a mild curry mix from Penzey's when I make mine and have never had anything but rave reviews.

Umm... definitely didn't realize hall trees were extinct! I wouldn't be able to work one into my modern apartment but my mother has always had one (similar in function to the one pictured -- shelf for keys, drawer for gloves/spares, a big mirror, hooks for hat and coats, space on the bottom for boots) as do many members of my extended family. Maybe we're just old fashioned!

I see that someone already mentioned this, but I want to second the suggestion about reading comments. Yes, that picture of yogurt covered pretzels looks gorgeous but with maybe one exception every single person who tried the recipe trashed it completely. Has anyone actually ordered a map from here? I really want to get one for my boyfriend's birthday (his family home in middle of nowhere PA... pretty cool) but I can't tell how big the map actually is. Is there some way to tell so I can start thinking about frames? Thanks!
