I ordered all 3 books from buyolympia.com (great website and small, cool, Portland, Oregon business) and I can't wait to read them with my little one. (the coupon code BUCKOFF will save you $1, btw)

When I Was Small
Daily Find

About 28 or 29 years ago: My mother wouldn't buy me a Cabbage Patch Doll, but she cut me a deal-- if I "sold" her all my beloved Strawberry Shortcake dolls, accessories, gazebo, etc., she'd order the $25 CP doll I chose from the Montgomery Ward catalog. I still have my darling little Keith Erny , or just "Erny", as we called him (a small, bald, African-American boy in a sailor suit) and all his clothing & accessories and just this month rescued (from a cruddy old box full of trash I found when my mother moved) what I could of my formerly pristine Strawberry Shortcake set, after my neglectful mother let my doll-hating sister and random neighbor kids destroy it over the years. *sigh* Bittersweet.

Love this little home! I had to go through the slideshow more than just a couple of times.

And I'd also love to know the name of the artist of the painting in the bathroom. :)

I don't comment on AT very often, but after seeing this home, I feel that I have to! WOW! I wish I knew these guys personally! I feel like I can really FEEL the amount of forethought and care that went into all the work detail. (Seriously-- Greg & Brian, let's meet for martinis the next time I'm in SF.) The light fixtures, the art, the little glass owl... I'm seriously swooning and bookmarking THIS post in my "Home Inspiration" folder.
(and that awesome shot of Mr. Biggs had me laughing out loud.)

@CozyLittleCave-- I love your blog! This library/reading room is going in my "inspiration file". (I have the same mirror- now I'm considering painting it, too-- yours looks great!)

I just bought the fox and the owl posters for our children's reading nook-- If you haven't, look at Tess's AMAZING reading room-- follow her link!

Love this tutorial-- I've had it bookmarked for some time and am planning to make a few of these with my children, for ourselves and a couple of friends.

(Rude of you, Cindy44-- I've never said anything about unnecessary negative comments before, but I will, this time.)

I missed the question about the projector screen when I first posted (not wearing my glasses), but I also agree with MisaL on the furniture placement and homebody's thoughts on projecting onto the wall opposite the fireplace. I wonder if the screen could be mounted above a large piece of art and only pulled down when in use-- that way you still have something beautiful standing in when you're not watching a movie.

It looks like you could create a nice dining area on the side of the room with the two windows, near the kitchen. What do you think of pale drapes, hung high, with soft shades underneath? The space between the windows could fit a silvered mirror or a narrow piece of art... and that space above the radiator looks perfect for a large piece of statement art.

You could place a sofa and table facing the fireplace with side chairs to the left and right as long as the furniture is scaled to the arrangement and the size of the room. If there's space, you could place a credenza (for linen & silver storage) on the wall behind the sofa (keeping a walkway through) and maybe hang a large mirror or some well-lit art above. And what do you think of a demilune table/art or mirror/or small secretary in the space to the far left of the fireplace?
If you can, you might rethink the light fixture- maybe drop it down a little and add a barrel shade around the chandelier... and add a pendant light in the dining area.
This is a wonderful space-- it just needs to be warmed and personalized with art, mirrors, and lighting. Have fun decorating! I hope my simple suggestions were helpful.

I love this home, too-- very cozy! The large hutch in the master bath gives me goosebumps! (the good kind!)

I love everyone's positive comments and, being very open-minded re: decor, myself, I really wanted to see a working rendition of a modern/shabby chic mash-up... HOWEVER-- as delightful as some of the vignettes appeared, the "total" did not work for me; I found myself wishing I could reach through the screen and rearrange the furniture and artwork into a more pleasing display.
I agree with ktex about adding more wood pieces (I picture minimalist and rustic in design) and also with Abstractionist in his/her observations and the idea that the homeowner should keep in mind her furniture's sculptural qualities when arranging.
I would like to see the homeowner experiment with bringing some of her furniture pieces OUT from the walls and windows, incorporating a few warm colors/textures (rugs like seagrass or FLOR tiles), and adding to/grouping her wall art so it doesn't seem so stark and unfinished.
(one more thing- is that a tush perched up there on that partition wall in frame #39? lol!)

@Sneeka-- You can find those strings of lanterns at World Market (subscribe to their store club for coupons). It looks like flags were attached to the wires to make a lit bunting. So cute, right? I'm eyeing it as a future project, myself!

LOVE this home-- it's very warm and cozy. I imagine that on rainy days it's very comforting. If I visited, I'd have a difficult time restraining myself-- I'd have to explore with a glass of wine or cup of tea in hand-- the art and creatively curated vignettes are quietly exciting and inspire my curiosity.

Your Schnauzer looks like such a little sweetie-pie. We lost our little Schnauzer boy in August and we miss him horribly. It's lovely that you include pictures of Bug in your home tour.

I take homekeeping photos like these as a suggestion and idea source-- they're obviously styled to death, but it's something to which we can all aspire. I, personally, LOOOVE seeing things artistically and creatively organized--it's very cool and "zen" to me.

*The last picture bothers me, though (the right hand side)-- are those loose pills I see filling that jadeite cup? Yeah-- that's a bad suggestion, Team Martha. :-/

This house makes me smile-- You have the loveliest views-- So lucky! I'd love to come visit you for coffee! (I promise I won't make off with your mcm barcart, but I AM coveting it...)

I do have to say that I'd love to see a different area rug in the dining room-- the green/camel scroll pattern doesn't go with that scheme at all. I'd move it to the upstairs playroom and consider either moving the blue patterned rug into the dining room (which still wouldn't coordinate with the darling art/tablecloth combo), or, even better, putting a more neutral (no pattern) rug under the table. Also, maybe a natural, neutral drum shade or conical pendant grouping (woven wood veneer type? http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/dc/lighting/lighting-5-wood-veneer-pendants-trend-watch-127607). I like the industrial fixture, but it doesn't marry well with your awesome chairs and they deserve to stand out. :-/

*And we have a Curious George plushie, too! He's well-loved. :)

Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Katie, I really enjoyed this post... and I love the orange, myself-- it's very warm and energizing. I envy you your secluded back patio space! (And I feel your pain on the bad cell signal issue; we have the same problem.)
P.S. Oh-- "Sleeping Beauty"-- the fairies reference-- but I got your point. ;) Your mom sounds very capable and creative.

*My 10", perfectly seasoned, OLD cast iron skillet. (I love what elise_the_great named hers-- I'm tempted to borrow that-- "Howl's Moving Castle" character. lol.)

*My 8" professional chef's knife & steel. I take them with me when I cook at other people's houses.

*kosher salt. MUST have. Scours cast iron like a dream.

*an OXO Good Grips vegetable peeler. I've had mine for 15 years and it's still just as sharp as it ever was. Handwash, only, and dry blade well, right away. Store carefully so it doesn't get dinged in the drawer.

I have several other faves, but it'll sound like everyone else's lists.

To ec05: In my experience, rosemary likes sandy soil and lots of sun. Don't overwater and keep it pinched down so it doesn't get too woody.
