I spent Valentine's Day at the Stanley a few years ago. Neither my girlfriend nor I slept well at all that night. It was cold and eerie. The cold can probably be explained by it being February in Estes Park, but the eerieness...

This post taught me that there is marble for mining/extracting in Greenland. In all honesty, I would not have expected that.

I hope it's not inappropriate for me to post this here, but that last map is made by my company, Authentic Models (AM).

It's the center of our 1739 Paris Map portfolio. We took the Michel Turgot map from 1739 and divided it into 30 even portions for wall display. I also have an antiqued version on UV-resistant acrylic panels that's been pretty popular. We have fabric panel maps of Rome (1676), Amsterdam (1737), New York (1879), the American colonies (1755) and the world in 1660. We work from original copies of all of these maps and it takes several months to complete the artwork for each.

Check out www.authenticmodels.com and click through to the Museum Collection to see them all.

Again, if this is an inappropriate use of comments, please delete this, but I hope it's okay to share. It's a very cool collection that we're very proud of.

This was a fun hotel and the price is right at their introductory rate of $99 a night ($119 on weekends, I think). But once that doubles, I recommend the Monaco for funky decor and a fun vibe. Plus, free drinks.

I pretty much just work in an office these days, tied to my desktop computer and phone. But Chatauqua Park in Boulder is one of my favorite places ever, and the picture in your post is making me homesick. I used to hike up there to my favorite spot to read a book on weekends and summer afternoons.

Wish I could work outside these days. But between my job and the weather, I'm stuck here.

Hi Patrick, I think your room is very very cool. It's like a psychedelic-ified Old World library.

I know this may not be the best forum for this, but I love that marble sculpture on the table: Curves in White. It's made by my company (AM) and we'll be at the NY Gift Fair next week. We'd be thrilled if you came by: Booth 2301 at Javits Center. Judging from this window, I think you'd really like our collection.

I wholeheartedly agree that there are too many Eames loungers featured out there.

But mostly, I'm tired of the raised sink look. Maybe it's because I live in Oregon, maybe I'm a little clumsier about dripping water than the rest of America, but every time I see a raised sink, all I can think about is that it's begging for mold all around the outside.

And I also agree with the above poster who said that granite and stainless steel will be the dark green Formica of this decade. It's a shame we'll have mined so much granite, it's all going to end up in a landfill in another ten years.

I don't own a printer at home, and haven't had a landline for at least five years. I wouldn't own a scanner at home, but it's something that I can use as necessary at work or a computer-oriented business, much like a printer.

And, though I also wouldn't own a fax machine at home (no landline), I'm always amazed at the sheer volume of business faxes I get.

My recommendation is to start with a single room that you both design together. Not the bedroom, that's too hard. Maybe a little nook or a second bedroom/home office area (if you're lucky enough to have one). That gives you both a taste for the other one's style and also an idea of how you like to work. I like to plan it out and move things once, my lovely bride likes to move things lots of times. That's why I think it's best to start small. As you continue to live together, start looking for purchases you can make (or at least decide on) together. Then it's yours together. We started by buying some art prints to build a room around. Since we got married this summer, we've sold a lot of our old stuff (college-style desks, the old bed) and brought in new that we picked out. It's been very fun.

I can't really read the article either, but you seem to be asking for store leads in Las Vegas. Every time I'm in Vegas, I spend at least an hour wandering slowly through Villa Reale in the Forum Shops at Ceasar's. This place is beyond incredible. They have antique furniture, signed Picasso and Norman Rockwell paintings, chandeliers, old maps, and anything else you can think of.

So far as I can tell, they carry both antiques and reproductions. The shop is full of little corners and nooks to get lost in. It's a real breath of fresh air and the only non-national shop I know of on the Strip. It's absolutely worth checking out and spending some time, if not a whole ton of money.

AM Living is a fantastic store and you should definitely get down there and talk to Jarred, the manager, about the collection of restored campaign trunks from the Himalayas on display right now.

Fair warning: I work for this company and am awfully partial to our products.

Fuschia. Mainly because it's fun to say and type.

Also, I dig that gummy light.

The Paris map is a reproduction of a 1739 map originally published by an artist named Etienne Turgot. This map was made by AM, a Holland-based company that specializes in historical reproductions. The map is available in a desktop portfolio (which is what was used to make this display), or as a wall-sized fabric version in three scrolls. Check it out at www.authenticmodels.com.

When I fly out of Portland in the morning (coming from Eugene), I typically stay at the airport Sheraton. It's a nice place and I dig the Starwood points. I would never stay at the Aloft for a night on the town, but I have a reservation for December before a 6 am flight. And, if you book in the next month or so, they'll give you 8x points, which makes the elusive (and crazy expensive) free night at a Starwood hotel ever so slightly closer.

My girlfriend and I took the liner notes from a CD (Lemon Jelly's Lost Horizons) to an art shop and blew it up onto poster-sized, then mounted it on the back of a giant piece of foam-board we found. It's followed us to four different apartments and now we buy other bedroom items to match the sunset colors and blues in the print.

There's a company in Oregon that has a whole line of historically accurate reproduction globes. The company is Authentic Models (www.authenticmodels.com) and they have globes from the past five centuries. I like to watch how our understanding of the world has changed over time.
