The wood flooring in that chevron pattern is quiet pretty.

I suggest painting the wall with the door all white or cream, leave the bookshelves, even get a sheer fabric for the window in the target color.
If you must, leave the stripe on the wall and paint that top edge in the target color. The color of the couch doesn't seem to go with the room at all. Maybe something in cream or white would work. The fur pillows are kind of pulling heavily on the room while it would be nicer to focus on bringing lightness to the room. You know, make the color a happy color and not some drab room thats been smoked in for years. I like the pillows in Amenity.com which seem to go well with these colors.

I wouldn't paint the mouldings a dark color and I wouldn't make them wood colored either. The nice wood features of the Eames lounger and any other woody furniture you have is a nice detail already. The gloss suggestion in a near white color is best for a nice finished look for the mouldings.

I would maybe paint the two walls surrounding the fireplace mantle a warmer white color. It would be still keep the overall bright white effect but possibly help to blend in the ivory tones of the sofa and rug while making the mantle pop a bit.

Interesting, but no.
The chrome parts only look good while its dry and new.
Ever try to clean a soap dish made from chrome after the soap has been used several times?
I also agree with the others.
I guess that makes me a germ freak.
