Oh wow, I remember these from when I was little. I used to love using them to bake cakes with my mom. I wonder where they got to, because they did make it so easy to take the cake out of the pan.

I'm tackling the back wall of my living/dining area. It's become a catchall for random stuff. There's a table in the center of the wall with our fish tank on it and under the table is pretty much everything you could think of - a trash can, plastic storage containers, a bucket for changing the fish's water. It looks terrible, to say the least. The plan is to find or create a place to store those items. We've also recently added new cabinetry in our kitchen, replacing a freestanding cart from ikea. So now the cart is in the dining area and it doesn't look too pretty. I'm still deciding if I want to craigslist it or hang on to it.

I do both as well. When ice cream at the store goes on sale for $2, it's hard to resist. Plus I rarely have the ingredients on hand to just whip up a batch of ice cream when I want it. But homemade is a lot of fun. It's one area of cooking/preparing food where I feel really free experimenting.

This looks so delicious. I'm glad to see a tofu option in place of the bacon, too.

I sprinkle lemon or other citrus peels over the soil. Cats avoid the peels, so it keeps them away. Gravel/pebbles as mulch also work, since the cats can't dig into it.

I very much dislike when recipes that need water at some point don't include water in the ingredients list. I had this experience the other day making crackers. I scanned the ingredient list and it simply said flour, oil, salt. I thought, huh that's weird. Then in the steps, it said to add 3/4 cup of water to the mix. But I missed that and ended up with a weird sandlike mixture until I stopped and slowly re-read the recipe. I even consulted a similar recipe in another cookbook, which did the exact same thing.
Just put water in the ingredients list. It's an ingredient, right?

Yum. This looks awesome. If only it weren't 100 degrees here, I'd make it tomorrow!

I love pretzel rolls. The whole foods here in Philly has taken it one step further and brought out pretzel baguettes.

Thanks for this review. I recently juiced a pound of limes with a wooden reamer and was thinking that there had to be an easier way to do it.

Great idea. Question, though: how far apart did you space the seeds when you planted them and did you have to thin them out as they grew?

Trader Joe's also labels their cheeses. I believe they have a handy chart on the wall by the cheese case listing what cheeses are vegetarian.

Thank you for this. It's very helpful--the last time I had to buy burgundy (for cooking), I had no idea what I was looking for and the store clerk sent me in the direction of the boxed and jug wines.

@saltpoint,

I grew orange bell peppers last summer in a container. They were pretty low maintenance. Just make sure you stake them or they'll fall over when they get bigger.

I've been skeptical about agave for a while, mostly because it was touted as the magic sugar. I do have a bottle of it in my pantry, but I rarely use it. It's so finicky. The conversion is too much for baking (reduce the amount, reduce the other liquids), that it's not even worth the effort.

ciabatta bread--I'm on my second attempt because the first batch of dough just wasn't rising or doing anything (bad yeast, I think). Also, pizza dough and english muffins. I haven't made bread in a few weeks, so I'm catching up this weekend.
