Hind is right, it's Anderson Park in Redmond, not Seattle. And it's really cool in person. I think the contrast between natural and handmade is really interesting and it gives each of the trees their own unique personality. Squirrels and other animals don't seem to have any problem running up and down the yarn covered trunks. If you're in the area, you should check it out, but soon, I think it's coming down in the next week or so. It's been up for probably a couple months.

If anyone is interested in seeing some more pictures, I have some on my blog.

I recently had an idea to help me branch out in my drinking choices. I'm planning a series of cocktail nights, all centered on one liquor. So gin night, whiskey night, rum night, etc. Buy several different bottles of the chosen liquor and make whatever interesting drinks with that liquor people have never tried. You get to try different brands and different drinks.

Totally a log! As a child I slept through a minor earthquake which's epicenter was just a few miles from my house. I even slept through my mom pulling me out of bed and dragging me to the doorway for safety. I was about six and I was so mad I slept through it because everyone was talking about it the next day at school.

I also once fell asleep in a Las Vegas airport, with a bank of noisy slot machines just a foot or so from my head.

Everyone suggesting Mod Podge, I HIGHLY recommend you try Royal Coat. Do you ever find your decoupage projects stay a little tacky unless you use a sealer over the top? Royal Coat has a built in sealer but otherwise it is basically the same thing. It's great.

Those cranberry bars are BOMB. I made them last year and they were so. freaking. good. They are now on the regular menu for both thanksgiving and christmas.

There's a glue made for glittering the inside of clear ornaments but I can't remember the name of it. I work at a craft store and we use it for our ornaments and it works really well.

I love woodstoves! I don't think they look out of place at all in the summer. We usually set a vase of fresh flowers, from our garden, on top of it during the summer months. We also have a mantel behind it, which sounds kind of odd but looks really nice. They're so efficient and boy are we glad to have it when the power goes out. Especially a couple years ago when our power was out for TEN days.

as a kid, we always got pumpkins from this great honor stand between our house and town. the owners have gotten older and it seems they only do u-pick dahlias now, but I have fond memories of picking out the best pumpkins, weighing them on their old fashioned scale and dropping our money into the coffee can on the bench.

(this is in washington state)

I don't think it's weird to hang on to old love letters at all. Speaking as a once nosy kid who went through a lot of my mom's old stuff (yearbooks, journals, letters, poetry) from high school, it was not uncomfortable or weird for me to read things from or about her exes. Maybe it would be to her, but it actually really helped me see her as a person at a time in my life when I was pulling away from her. The realization that I think we would have been friends if she was not my mom and we were the same age helped me become much closer to her.

The best is when they get caught in episode 3, but somehow they manage to keep it going for episode 4. It's a pretty funny show.

They call them huckleberries other places, but they always seem weird to me. Here we have deliciously tart, tiny red berries that are a hassle to pick but so worth it.

I agree with the others that have suggested holding off on painting. I think the paneling is wonderful, the best I've ever seen. It doesn't look cave like at all, it's actually very light and airy to me. Get rid of the ceiling fans and do something with the fireplace, and see how it looks with your furniture. I actually think that odd arch thing will only work with the paneling, in my head it looks so awkward and ugly if the wood is painted, but as it is now I think it's an interesting feature. I really think it's a shame to ruin a very nice example of wood paneling, since so much of it is awful.

I tried this once and wasn't a huge fan, but I'm not a big coffee drinker. They have it at a lot of grocery stores, I think Safeway or QFC.

Oooh, I love these pictures. The collages look like they're organized into square panels, which I like, and the contrast between the collage and the rose print is awesome. The black in the bedding really ties it together though.

I'm only 19, and still living in one of the houses I lived in during my childhood, so that doesn't count. But the other two, well one my mom still owns is currently (and has been for the past 2 or 3 years) rented out to my best friend, so I see that one all the time. It's weird because my friend sleeps in the same room I did as a child. It looks a lot different now, actually nicer, but it's still weird. The backyard/woods behind the house are more nostalgic to me because they look exactly the same, except the old goatshed up the hill is more rundown than ever. The other house from my childhood is actually the house I was born in, and is about five minutes away from where I live now. It's on a lake which I have to drive around to visit a friend, so I see it all the time. I don't remember it all since I think we moved out when I was about six months old, but I have pictures of it from when we lived there and I think it's weird that it's cream instead of red now. I'm always tempted to stop by and ask if I could look around, but it's down a long driveway and I always feel awkward. It's been on the market a couple times, and every time I kind of wish I could buy it.

I always bring the map along, but don't pull it out until it's time to find my way back to the hotel or wherever I'm staying. Before then, just wander and explore. It's so much more exciting. That's what I did my whole time in Italy, but especially Florence and Venice. Best way to see a city.

I like to get the typical touristy postcards and then decorate them myself before mailing. I usually just use pens/markers to outline or color in aspects of the image already there. It can look really cool. My favorite is probably nighttime photos of cities, in which I go over the lights with colored markers. Also, I think it can be fun to have a stash of bad postcards but use them when you're NOT in the place they're from. I sent a friend of mine a really old New York postcard when we were both at home (and he lives in the same town as I do).

I adore Elvis Costello! Stenciled my own shirt back in high school and wore it to the record store where the cute boy I know liked Elvis Costello worked. Never got his attention, but I still like the shirt.
