Thanks for the great ideas! I have a dino lover in the house that is about to turn 5 and she has requested a pink dinosaur party. (Last year, it was an elephant party, the year before, a turtle party! She's one in a million!!) I have been searching for interesting ideas and LOVE the fossil cookies! Thanks for sharing!! with my first one, we put pictures from our recent vacation in an album with our baby's first sonogram pic at the very end. with my second, i bought my daughter a "Big Sisters Rock!" tshirt and sat back and timed it. my in-laws read it right away. but my parents? after about 10 minutes of her right in front of their faces, i had to tell my mom to read her shirt! we use Totally Toddler like it's going out of style. so far, it has gotten virtually everything out that we have applied it to. i swear by this stuff and give it to new moms along with a shower gift. What Are Your Favorite Baby Cleaning Products? |

i was going to suggest sandblasting too. i have an almost identical one that was my great grandmother's. when i got it from my sister, it was in horrible shape. my brother-in-law is a mechanic and has his own sandblaster, so he did it for me. 8 years later, it needs to be touched up in a few spots, but otherwise is still looking great. maybe you could post on Craigslist or something...i am sure that there is a mechanic/auto body guy that would be willing to do it for a lot cheaper. good luck! my house is currently under contract and i just told my husband the other night that once we drive away with the last truck load of our stuff, i never want to see the house again. and i won't have to since we are moving to a neighboring state. over the last 8 1/2 years we have poured our lives into that house, brought 2 babies home there and made some great memories. i think it would kill me if anyone repainted anything or changed a light fixture. no, i think it would be best if i just drive away and, if i ever miss it, look at all the pics of the befores, durings and afters of all our hard work. i didn't have a dishwasher with my first kiddo. i pumped at first, then went to formula and there were a lot of late nights that i spent washing all the pieces so i could have them ready for the next day for work. but we survived. we even did a complete to-the-studs remodel of our kitchen right before her first birthday and i ended up doing her bottles in the bathroom sink for 2 months. i still survived. however, a major part of the kitchen remodel was the addition of a dishwasher and it did make things with my second a little easier. wow...starting to feel a bit judged here because i had a friend that was dying to throw me a shower for the arrival of my second. since i had another girl, i really didn't need a whole lot, but my friend's and family's generosity was really appreciated. i did tell those who were attending that if they were going to bring a gift, i would be more than happy for them to bring diapers or wipes. (yes, i am one of 'those' people that uses disposables...gasp!) my office even gave me a lovely shower. i didn't work there when i had my first child, so my co-workers were really excited to throw a party for the baby. i have one in each of my girls' closets for their shoes, but i also have one in their bathroom linen closet. it holds all their hair stuff (categorized by color!) and makes it super easy to grab something that matches their outfit. i also have stuff stored in it for easy access (toothpaste tubes, bandaids, travel size shampoos). it has kept me sooo organized! best invention EVER! 8 Other Uses for a Shoe Organizer |

i agree. i picked out some of my favorite vintage Fisher Price pieces (the barn & silo, the cash register, etc) and have them displayed on shelves in my living room between bins where all the farm animals and other small toys live. just the right balance! Displaying Toys Inspiration |

my worst was a roommate who demanded i call the utilities company and figure out exactly how much electricity she used vs. how much i used and tried to convince me that this would be a much more fair way to determine how much to pay for the bill instead of 50/50. i later kicked her out because she refused to pay rent until we got the utilities thing figured out. a Boston does not grow out of the chewing phase for a looooong time, sorry to inform you. a Boston Terrier is actually part rodent...didn't anyone tell you?? when i got my first Boston (Lucy), i was living in a rental where no pets were allowed. (oops!) she chewed furniture, shoes, clothing, kitchen cabinets, wood trim. you name it, she gnawed it. amazingly, i got my deposit back when i moved out. when i got my second Boston (Frank), he had the same issue, but not nearly as bad as my girl. Lucy continues to be destructive 9 years later, mainly with digging (scratching, clawing). she ruined a living room chair by digging out a huge hole in the back of it over the course of a couple of months. i totally gave up buying my Bostons any dog toys as they are completely obliterated in a matter of minutes. i might as well just throw cash at them to chew up. at 9 and almost 8, they have finally calmed down a bit, but i still don't trust them one bit while we aren't home. once they went crazy and pulled books off of a bookcase and shredded them...just for fun. since doing that, they are confined to the laundry room whenever we step foot out of the house. my dogs factor into my furniture decisions just as much as my kids do. i would love to have a leather couch, but i am afraid the dogs would ruin it in no time. so that's why we still have our vintage 1955 couch, because nothing can hurt that bad boy. i really do adore my dogs. and they adore me. i put up with their bad habits and affection for rolling around in stinky things. and they put up with my decision to have children, which effectively displaced them from their pedestals. good luck and chin up! Bostons have many fine attributes that surely outweigh the bad. Think Positively: Dealing With Pet Damage |
