@amt230--Their new home is located in Charlottesville, VA, but more towards the outskirts, away from UVA. It's really beautiful there, especially in the fall/winter.

abc123, did you miss my dedication to you in the Musical Holiday post? :)

I actually had that Pete Rock & CL Smooth track, "They Reminisce Over You" for the first photo--I was really torn because it does go really well with that room, but it gives it a totally different vibe. Next time, next time...

Thank you to all of you who have pointed out the layout is off scale and links to floor planning sites--that's going to be very helpful for Evan and I when we really get down to the brass tacks! Like I said in the post, we're currently in the initial stages, taking stock of what he has (and what has to go and/or get repaired). Once we get final measurements of everything after we've checked what's staying, I'll definitely try floorplanner.com out.

I'm not a professional interior decorator or designer (I'm a graphic designer by day), so when I was writing this post, I drew this shoddy layout up very, very quickly in Illustrator thinking that it would be a general "guide" to how Evan's home is set up and what he has. In my haste, I forgot to add the main entrance which is on the the lower left corner--you walk right into the work space. There's no waiting area, it's just rows and rows of cardboard boxes holding apparel samples. So far, it seems to work pretty well for Evan--he has 2-3 interns that work in the office area, and he uses his living room as a meeting area.

The entire wall opposite the kitchen is all floor-to-ceiling windows with the 2/3rds of each panel frosted from the bottom up for privacy (that wall faces the street).

As for the other suggestions of hiring a professional--Evan would if he had the budget to do so! He is renting this space out currently, and his budget for this project is very, very minimal (unless he wins the mega-million lottery; at which point, he will probably buy an even bigger warehouse and hire all of you to design and decorate).

Congrats on your baby!

My two huskies have certainly done their fair share of damage--mainly digging holes in the backyard and chewing on shoes and socks--especially during their puppy days. Oddly, Bitter Apple only worked for Nanners (Herbie seemed to be quite taken with the flavor if I recall correctly). But honestly, the most effective thing that I did was to block off areas that I didn't want them to get into until they learned that it was off-limits. With that in mind, glass doors might be an effective idea to keep your books intact--in exchange, you'd just have to clean the glass from nose prints :) I had a friend who had 2 hyper labs who were wary of umbrellas--when she bought a new couch, she would put open umbrellas on them when she left the house to keep her dogs from jumping on it.

I also agree with all the advice on exercise as well. Tired dogs are happy ones for sure!

The paint color for the nook (and the living room) is actually

BEHR : Flat, Matte, Prem Plus Interior Flat - Garden Wall 730D-4

(The Ralph Lauren paint was used for Erika's bedroom).

Hope that helps...!

Becky, our MP drinking game is really, really easy.

1) Drink every time Ashlee Simpson looks pained/confused/constipated/surprised (Sadly, only about 3-4 drinks. Not because she wasn't exhibiting all of the qualities, but because she was rarely on screen during the pilot).

2) A shot of tequila every time a Hollywood spot is dropped; i.e. "Guess who I saw stumbling out of Katsuya!" (Again, only 2-3 shots. We did count the Beverly Hills police station as one though).

3) Chug for the entire duration of a flashback. (Now THIS is why we were on the floor towards the latter half of the episode.)

We also had a one for One Tree Hill (drink every time Chad Michael Murry squints intensely during a close up), but then we realized how awesomely ridiculous the show was even without alcohol. I think that epiphany happened after the episode where the evil dad's transplant heart gets EATEN BY A DOG. No, really. (And yes, he does squint during the close up--end scene! Drink!).

Kamaraderie, these are definitely not for sale and yes, I believe Logan did these as just a fun personal project. I posted about this because I admire anyone who takes the time to do something creative for the fun of it especially since I am having a difficult time finding the time or energy to tackle any of my own projects. Also, I just think they turned out really great. I wouldn't hesitate to frame them and hang them up in my home.

Since I doubt that he'll ever make prints to sell these due to copyright laws and so forth, this post is for anyone who (like me) needs some motivation to get started on those personal projects that get pushed to the backburner.

MrCranky, I think calling this "sophomoric rubbish" because the designer took inspiration from Blue Note records and didn't create something "original" seems a bit funny, especially since (as sammybaby pointed out), the RZA was inspired not only by Hong Kong kung fu films, but he also sampled soul and jazz for many of the Wu Tang albums. So would you say that 36 Chambers (which sampled various songs including Thelonious Monk's "Black and Tan Fantasy" and Gladys Knight and the Pips' "The Way We Were") was also rubbish and unoriginal?

AustinSarah, I'd have to say it was excruciating watching this movie. Ginnifer Goodwin's character Gigi was probably worst (although she had a very cute wardrobe). Probably not cult classic material--not even in the guilty pleasure category.

amarie,

I have both Tracy Anderson DVDs, and I agree: the mat workout is really, really good (the ab part may look a bit idiotic, but it's really effective). I actually do that one every day. The first time I put the Dance one in, I felt ridiculous. However, I think if I actually spent the time to learn the choreography, it wouldn't be so bad. My overall complaint with her DVDs is that she doesn't give cues very often. The NYC Ballet workout is pretty good...the narrator is hilarious, heh.

As far as motivation goes, I usually feed off the energy of my co-workers, even though we live in different cities and work remotely. There have been many times when someone will end a chat conversation with, "OK, I'm off to work out," and I'll think, "Hmmm...I should do that too..." and will peel myself away from the computer for at least an hour of exercise. Another good motivator is signing up for a specialized class--I signed up for ballet at the local dance studio, and it's been great to have a set schedule and learn new things each time. Painful, but great.

Oh vagary...if you only knew how very far off the mark your comment is. As much as I would like to be able to write "common sense tips" as my full time job, such is not the case for me (or most of the editors here at AT). Sorry that my daily routine of picking up my house in the morning offends you so much, but it happens to benefit me and I thought it would be worth mentioning. If you don't agree, that's fine...but please, don't make assumptions.

The point of this post is to discuss aspects of living single, and the lists presented here happen to be based from a few conversations with friends on the topic. I posted them as a starting off point for discussion. Whether you find them "stupid" or not, I encourage you to share your own insight as it may benefit those of us who are living alone.

Hi Art,

The Airfoil Speaker program comes bundled with Airfoil, so you don't really need to download anything else.

And yes, you can selectively transfer parts of your library from the PC to your macbook...although with Airfoil, you can play music off of a PC or a Mac, so you could just play directly off the PC.

Hope that helps!
