this is awesome. I also prefer your eight button per cushion tufting compared to Ikea's six. yours looks classy while theirs looks like it could be from Target. worth it.

I really like Jessica Alba's. I love her hat collection and the mood of her and her closet. Plus, she looks adorable in there.

I love this. Gives me hope for my sad rental kitchen. I have a very similar setup, particularly the cabinets and pulls. I've had a hard time justifying any more effort and money into a rental to myself lately. But this post is so clean, cheery and inspiring! I see a weekend project in the near future. Thank you!!

I haven't had a microwave for about four years. The hardest part was convincing my boyfriend of two years we didn't need one. Our first apartment together had a microwave over the stove, an easy win. When moving into a new house six months later he insisted we buy a microwave. Luckily it broke almost immediately and we've been a microwave free couple for ten months now.

The thing I miss the most: microwaving my sponges. 20-30 seconds in the microwave killed the mildewy-germ smell. Now no matter how much I ring it dry it still smells after just a couple days. Washing them in the laundry doesn't kill the smell either. Any suggestions?

I like the chess pieces and orange towels. I love the way purple and orange go together and I imagine they look great with the true color of the bathroom. I understand it's hard to capture color, especially in a windowless room! I'm also liking your dark cabinets with light counters/sinks. I've been thinking of painting mine a similar color. Great rooms, thanks!

So I know this is way late but does Jessica or anyone know where I can find a similar mail holder like the one by her entry? It's perfect, but really the whole place is just gorgeous.

oops, okay I think I allowed myself to get confused partly due to the differing order of pictures and their descriptions. I thought image 4 was a toilet/sink combo. It's now less hilarious, but also a relief.

Number 3, ew! And I love that your description of this option involved Mathew McConaughey. LOL. Nice post!

I just noticed the picture next to the tub. Awesome, haha!

Now I want to see the WHOLE room! After all bathrooms that are homes to Clawfoot Tubs (almost wrote "Cubs") are my favorite!

That's great news on the new floor and cabinets! I'm fortunate enough to not have carpeting in my kitchen, but my cabinets are in much, MUCH worse shape...

As far as the washer/dryer goes poetry and others had some pretty good ideas! HOWEVER, if you are getting new cabinets you may be able to throw some sort of enclosure into the mix, think "hidden laundry room in the pantry." This may prove more difficult with your separate units but maybe your landlord would be willing to get you a stackable washer/dryer.

It's always worth it to ask, your landlord may know of another unit that could use your current washer/dryer. If they are unwilling to spend more money, purchasing your own could be another option, as long as you can take it with you when you move! Just a thought, otherwise the butcher block idea is still great compromise!

"I hate being called a hater" LOL

Some of these comments remind me of an old roommate that would come into my bedroom and complain that I was watching tv and surfing the internet at the same time. Or that I would go to sleep with a fan in the window during 90 degree weather.

It's great to be so committed to a cause. But when you scold and belittle anyone who does not share your exact lifestyle, it really does no good for your cause.

ellearRVA, I totally agree on number one. No matter how much I like it I could never justify spending that much on a hamper. I'd rather buy chicken wire and black spray paint and make my own.

double :( I was hoping to see some Northern California and Oregon in there. I know I could find out for myself but what's the fun in that.

I really liked this post and it's too bad that so many people found it so upsetting... ?!

So what if your nic-nacks express your sense of humor. Or if you love the nostalgia of a retro home. Or if you buy everything you own at Urban Outfitters or Ikea or West Elm or Whatever because you love it! To each their own.

This site focuses on many different styles, it's all about picking and choosing! No one is forcing anyone to like anything. Just because you don't understand how someone could have such differing tastes from your own doesn't mean they are silly, pretentious or a blind trend follower. :)

I like! I love the colors, this looks like the perfect bedroom for summer cat naps. It feels both masculine and feminine, an aspect I'm sure my boyfriend would appreciate more of in our own home. :) Thanks for the inspiration needed to give him some of that (he definitely deserves it). I also agree with beckestra, the room does remind me of Carrie's room!
