Dimmer light switches! I absolutely refuse to jolt my eyes with the harsh switch from natural early morning darkness to artificial light in one blow. I need to ease my eyes into the day. I even have a dimmer in the washroom.

Don't forget to actually lift the rug (and underpad, if you use one) from it's place and vacuum the floor underneath. I'm always amazed at the dirt, hair and particles that settle there.

Arrive at your viewings prepared. Bring any documentation/information you might need, such as Equifax report/credit history, pay stub or other proof of income, resume, and list of references. Don't forget your cheque book and a pen.

I've found this to be very helpful in expediting the process of being shortlisted among potential candidates. My landlords seemed to appreciated my interest and commitment to the search process, as it suggests that I might likewise be an upstanding tenant.

I'm in Toronto and there are 3 Ikeas within a 20-40 minute drive from me. I go about once every three months. However, each visit usually requires multiple trips, as I constantly find myself returning or exchanging things - sometimes due to the piece not quite working out in the space as I envisioned it, and sometimes due to buyer's remorse. I think if I didn't have the luxury of proximity, I would be a lot more disciplined with my approach to Ikea. Is it just me?

Real glassware. Preferably something with a little heft. There's just no excuse for drinking out of plastic. Glassware is inexpensive, so this is hardly a luxury.

Plates and serving ware that's free from chips. I don't hesitate to replace anything with a chip.

Dimmers on just about every light source where possible.

Original art work. Doesn't have to cost much or be created by a name artist. I just prefer stuff that not everyone else has.

Real wool rugs. I have a weakness for Persians, but there are cheaper alternatives. I much prefer natural fibers underfoot than synthetics.

A comfortable and ergonomic work chair. I only have one back, one neck and one set of shoulders, so I'm willing to shell out as much as I can to keep them in good shape. Of course, this chair must be visually appealing. Style need not suffer for ergonomics.

I definitely would NOT thin the soup out with store bought broth. That defeats the purpose of home made soup! A little water should be fine. You'll also see that the gelatinous consistency dissolves when heated even if you don't add water.

I love this place so much! I make a point to comment whenever the home owner is featured in the house tour. Thank you! It's so nice to see the people who inhabit such lovely spaces.

Free is expensive when it comes with bedbugs attached. In this current climate, be careful with salvaged goods!

But nice score on the lamp :)

This is a truly terrific soundtrack. I still love it as an adult. The characters are rich, multifaceted and unique and the songs are catchy, quirky and a little edgy. This ain't no Disney musical.

Do it! I currently live on the same street as my last home. I really like the street and I happened to find a place that was nicer, cheaper and had more suitable tenants (professionals as opposed to students). The move itself was a headache, as moving always is, but it's paid off and I'm much happier.

Polyester, of which microfiber is made, is great for being easy to clean. I don't like the look of typical microfiber, but I love the polyester upholstry on my couch. It's a nubby, tweedy texture, which withstands frequent spot cleaning with a damp cloth (due to my messy habit of managing to get chocolate bits smooshed on it). It's a light taupe-grey color and does not show dirt or stains at all. So you can get the benefits of polyester without having to go the classic microfiber route.

Love it! Eclectic, comfortable and cool. Fantastic outdoor space. I can't tell you how much more I enjoy a tour when I can actually see who lives there. It makes a home come alive.

Ahhh, sweet memories of childhood. We had an elderberry bush in the backyard and used to make these all the time. I thought this was unique to our family, but I'm glad to hear others do it too. So yummy!

Please leave it alone. It is what it is. Decorating it will only make it more conspicuous and could potentially depreciate the value of the space.

I walk by your building everyday. I'd love to stop by for a cocktail! It's so nice to see so much personality in what can be very cookie cutter condo units. Great job on making your place sophisticated, warm and inviting.

I obsessively hide certain traces of modern life such as ubiquitous electrical cords, chargers and other clutter. But I've learned to live with my exercise ball out in the open. As much as I enjoy a neat, minimalist living space, I am also the proud owner of a nicely defined set of abs (if I do say so myself). While against my better style judgment and predilection for neatness, my very obvious exercise ball is easily accessible and hard to ignore, which helps ensure I use it on a regular basis.

Wow! It's so refreshing to see a novel use of a ubiquitous item. You don't often see a truly imaginative use of materials everyday, but this is really special.
