Thank you for such a great post! In the last week at my house I have finished my first semester of grad school finals, my fiancee lost his job, and we learned that we were going to spend a minimum of 10 hours in the car between dec23-dec25 (again). I think I really needed the permission to do something for myself, and today, I think I will!!

I love a good list, so I'm sure this is going to be my favorite day!

-Borrow rug cleaner from MIL and do the white carpets in dinning & living rooms (it came with the house and is in too good of shape to justify replacing it! Poo!)
-Buy large floor rug for living room
-Take bags of donations to second-chance
-Sew curtains for office
-Figure out storage for magazines
-Buy and stencil new blind for the bathroom window

We made rissotto last night for the new recipe night, it was actually the second time we made it, and it still needs improvement, but it was WONDERFUL.

The landing strip is hopeless however. I feel like with out layout there is no logical place for one in our house!!

The 20/20 Home Cure

Feel like death warmed up today. But this afternoon I wiped down the surfaces in the living and dining rooms, vacuumed and recycled the weeks news papers. I still feel a bit icky, but it's much nicer to be icky in a clean, nice smelling home :)

I think where you are eating when you are eating alone is just as important as what you are eating. My favorite home alone meal (that I get to indulge in maybe once or twice a month) is simple homemade pasta alfredo, a glass of good wine eaten snuggled in bed under my down comforter with a book or movie. It is something I did often during a very difficult time in my life and is now something I would never do when the BF is home, so it makes it that much more indulgent and comforting when I get the chance.

My grandfather's paintings. All of the art in our house was painted by my grandfather, a retired college art professor. Some of these paintings were in my house or my grandparents growing up and others were gifts when we moved into this house. No house is home for me until Grandpa's art is on the walls.

Wow! Thank you for these links. We're transitioning away from prepackaged food at our house and cereal was one of the few things we have not been able to give up yet! Honestly, I still may keep my death grip on multigrain cheerios though....

This is a pretty normal out the door week day breakfast at our house: a homemade protein bar and a glass of milk (if you're really good add some fruit). We love these protein bars (they taste like no-bake cookies!!):

1 1/4 c. chocolate protein power (we use GNC)
1 c peanut butter
1/2 c honey
1 1/2 c. oldfashioned oats

Melt honey and pb together in microwave, mix in dry ingredients, press into an ungreased square pan. Chill for 1 hour. Cut into 9 bars.

200 cal. / 11g fiber/ 20g protein
(based off the brands and products we use at our house)

I have a framed placemat, that hangs in our entryway, used to advertise the Kalamazoo County Fair (the "bit town" closest to the little one I grew up in) from the 1950's. It was used as an advertisement for church suppers, masonic chicken dinners and the likes. Attractions that year: Tommy Dorsey band on Friday night and Midget Westling on Saturday!!

Learn to sew a pillow cover with a piped edge. It's a very easy skill to master and it gives you much more freedom in your decorating, not having to depend on pre-made covers or pillows.

My cat hated the giant covered litter box I bought him, I can't imagine expecting him to crawl into the top one to use the box. I looks like it would create more potty problems than it would solve.

As a renter, I would love a new bathroom floor. The current one is 2 inch ceramic tile set in concrete (what were they thinking?!) and is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean.

On top: A reading lamp, a silver framed photo, a lavender scented candle, little alarm clock and a ceramic dish for jewelry and other odds and ends.

Drawer: Pen & Pad of paper, bar of dark chocolate, mints and a prayer book.

On the shelf: About 5 assorted books and a box of tissues.

Nothing is off limits. Things are meant to be used. That said, there are things that I used to keep in my closet to hide them from my old room mate, who was just plain careless. Breaking my cheap tumblers is one thing, but breaking a hand blown red wine glass is a whole different story.

I love the vanity (and the tile!). I would change the vanity top, probably go with something with a straight not rounded edge, to keep with the modern feel of the space. Good luck,I know how much work a bathroom reno is, it's going to be BEAUTIFUL.

I love ironing. I think it's the repetative motion, the steam and the march toward perfection. I love the act, but I also love pulling out a pair of perfectly ironed pants at 6am, and not having to worry about anything but putting them on.
