I live in a historic district and I know there is no way they will let me use these for my studio, but oh my what fun to dream of!

I collect art myself and have a fairly large collection (for a private person), that said that house gives me the willies.

Not to be unkind but I believe one should curate their collection; not cram it all in view like a size 9 foot in a size 7 shoe.

It smacks of hording.
Again apologies to Odile, I am certain you are as lovely as you are strong to survive all you've been through.

The building I work in has huge exposed columns. They actually display banners on them (yes the prevent H1N! banner is exciting-not) but think about if you had one of those awesome black cloth rolls that show bus stops. Or even over-sized one banner for art shows at museums.

Like everyone else says, embrace it.

Is that a Sean Scully painting in photograph #6, if it is I am drooling. Hell even if it isn't, I am drooling!

I do like the form though!

A word of caution here.

I paint and hav e arather large Best easel in my studio. The hardware to tighten everything in place can and does slip. They can also become stripped over time.

If you are considering using an artist easel for this, make sure its a heavy duty one and please reinforce all you settings perhaps with screws into the wood vice relying on the knobs on the easel itself.

A nice flat panel on the floor broken is not a happy thing.

Leave 'em-seriously, if for no other reason than resale.

I have to ask a question though-if you love modern why on earth did you buy a historic home? I have a historic condo and a townhouse. I've tried very hard to modernize while respecting the fact that they are old, beautiful but old.

For something really zingy have you considered the awesome recycled aluminum subway tiles?

Strongly recommend using a sable brush or a very soft brush (synthetic sable, squirrel or even mongoose hair) if you suspect any damage or cracking.

Better yet have a professional clean it (unless its one of those wonderful flea market retro works).

Very nice. I would have liked a little more information on the pieces you love, where you purchased them and what made you love them.

KJanssom, seriously you need a nap.

I had mirrors in my glass cabinets in my previous home and liked the effect so much I put them in the two glass cabinets in my new place.

It makes an incredible difference in the room.

I had one of those railroad shelves over my bathroom door in my condo. It looked great, held a ton of towels and other smaller items and took up only unused space.

I know they sell them at ikea as well as more expensive stores-

Curator's Office for art (source of my beloved "Hello Kitty masterpiece" series of paintings by artist Leslie Holt.

On line there are some great resources as well-although she recommends FAAN I've never had much luck there and frankly some work is still sitting there after a year...

Anyways there two are knockouts and they support emerging artists:

http://athousandsmallpaintings.blogspot.com/ (Duane Keiser's smaller/tiny works)
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5060033 (Amamda Kavanagh's wonderful prints and smaller paintings)

etsy stores such as Amanda's are a source of some amazing art, most very nicely priced-and something for almost any taste.

The Torpedo Factory Bin gallery has some very reasonably priced works.

I wrote this blog post a while ago-it also has some good sources for art that won't kill you bank balance

Have you considered finding the foam from a supplier and making your own? You can buy various densities of foam to your taste and, I hate to say assume, but I assume it would be much cheaper than the $150/whack that west elm wants.

As a part time painter I think you'd get a great deal of reflected color onto your canvas, which could a problem for you.

Not to be a buzz kill but--

Reminder, if you break your lease it can have serious repercussions on your credit rating.

If you move out when your roommate finds another tenant, your name will still be on the lease and you are still liable for your share of the rent if they don't pay it or up and leave.

Just food for thought. If you have separate rooms you might simply want to think/pretend you're in a college dorm and just hang in there. While it seems like a horrible long time for the year to be over, it will be over in a few months and then you can move on with your life slightly older and a bit more cautious?

I love the beauty of the way the pencils look. Until now I never thought I'd see anything more expensive than the Caran d'arche luminance pencils. Do they understand that there is a recession on?
