@annabelle4 - we live in one of the subdivisions across Ike
@amberjo - the hides are pretty indestructible and easy to clean. I just use a damp towel for spills and yes, I just vacuum it weekly. I say go for it!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
@MSPFACE - you are welcome, anytime! :) I need a shopping buddy!
@FULINLIN - I totally agree!
@ACEYX - Mark needs to be programmed more! It's not working! ;)
@DHJ - the flooring in the dining room came with the house. I believe it is parquet wood. The entry is black granite and white marble from home depot. I scored the quilt at Bloomingdale's Home store in Chicago (70% off!)

Erin, we too moved from the east coast 3 years ago. If you like antiques/vintage stuff, check out Antiques on Second and Blackhawk antiques. I also like Home Market in the third ward.

@correna79, you should! It was pretty easy to do and very cheap.
@luxie23, I made the mobile. I bought the birdhouse at Michael's, used embroidery hoops and followed the DIY for the birds from spool - http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/2008/05/16/bird-mobile/

Oh WOW, thanks everyone!
To answer your questions,
-the couch is from a local design store but is manufactured by southern furniture. i really love it and is very well made!
-yes, it is the original granite
- i did make the roman shade (special thanks to Jenny of Pearl Street Interiors for the turorial!)
- the paint is BM atrium white for the trim and cabinets and iced cube silver for the living/dining room walls

- the rug is a home goods find
-Guinness, we ended up hiring a painter. He first cleaned the cabinets with tsp then applied liquid deglosser. I guess he wasn't satisfied with is so he sanded the cabinets as well. He then used oil based Kiltz primer (he used mostly his brush and roller for larger surfaces). He only did 1 coat of the paint for the inside and the base of the cabinets but applied 2 coats for the outside. He did an amazing job and he was very thorough. Oh, he used purdy brush for paint.
-ciddyguy, i intentionally excluded the fixtures in the picture because i haven't replaced them, I will though eventually.
I am seriously considering painting/staining the hutch and stairs but might do the bedrooms first(more oak!).
I love AT and thanks guys for all the input and nice comments!

Apartment Therapy Chicago | Charmaine's Painting Projects Before After Good Questions Revisited
9/22/09 8:26 PM

Thanks everyone! I didn't mention that we are going to have our floors refinished before we move in. Maybe I'll have them quote the stairs too. I'll start with the baseboard, chair and molding first and go from there. Although I've never considered staining the cabinets, I'll probably practice painting and/or staining the cabinets in the basement storage room and see which one I like better. Thanks again!
