Ok for once I'll agree with an art for kids post- ink stamps are the BOMB for little (old enough not to try to eat them!) kids. SO much fun. I mean, you could give a kid a pack of post its, ink and a stamp and come back 5 hours later. Kids LOVE stamps. I do to ha!

Sorry, I only clicked on this link because of the poorly photoshopped main image.

That said, I HOPE my son wants a play kitchen. I loved them and they're not just for girls.

Too many comments to read through. My feelings on gift cards (for ANY age, not kids) is its a lazy gift. Plain and simple. Can you buy it next to gum and bottles water when you buy cat litter at the grocery store? Not a good gift then! You don't know the kid or the adult well enough to get them a gift on your own so you cop out with a gift card. Even the most difficult in my family to give gifts, I take the time and thought come up with something besides a gift card. The whole "it's the thought that counts" totally true. I'll smile and hug someone for a not so great gift because they put the thought into it. Graciousness gets you far and I agree, its a skill we teach kids less and less nowadays.

I loves me some color but the idea that they can tell us the "it" color for the year makes me roll my eyes. If they said it was literally a color called "crap brown", people would flock to the stores and buy it in droves. I don't like "Emerald" so I won't be buying anything that shade. Go one with your bad self if you do, but not cause a printing/color space company says to. We're not that big of sheep are we?

jenrepps- sorry, forgot to clarify it was an infant carseat with a child maybe 6 months old. And since it was an infant seat, the seat was tilted far too much so rather than leaning back the baby was almost facing the ground.

We just flew for the 2nd time over thanksgiving with our now 9 month old and I noticed someone with the car seat carrier for rolling suitacases for the first time....they had the car seat strapped to their bag WITH THE BABY IN IT! They were chugging through the airport and the kid was literally hanging by the seatbelt. She was screaming, obviously scared. My husband and I were shocked no one stopped them.

Also, totally agreed about BBC shows. Sherlock (understand they're 2 hour "episodes" so buckle in!) is AWESOME. Doctor Who is great. My husband loves IT Crowd.

What random categories for some of them. Capers? Finishing sugar? I mean, cool- good to know, but strange.

Also I'm with you on the Hunt's. That brand always tastes off to me. My favorite grocery store brand is Contadina.

This is tough cause it's so specific to a person's taste. I've watched most of these shows listed and never would rec many of them. Battlestar isn't most people's cup of tea and, while I love British comedies, the original Office was tough for me to get into.

That said, my husband and my recent burn throughs have been:

-Once Upon a Time (no way to explain it without sounding really dumb, but its a great show)
-Breaking Bad
-Parks and Recreation
(I don't think it's on Netflix) but Community is a great one to watch

Lost is great for the few people on earth who haven't seen it already and we loved going through all of Alias a few years back.

My most vivid thanksgiving memory as a kid was my dad pulling out a page of comics from the newspaper and having me help cut out a ton of "footballs" we glued to make turkey feathers over a hand cutout he made from the comics. We spent half the day doing it and i was totally enthralled by it.

I don't think we could go so far as to give up our coffee table (we put corner bumpers on it and our son has been fine since) but the candles/ knick nacks on it had to go.

A big misconception of "baby proofing" we quickly came to learn from other parents we met was more "how can i make my house safe so i can do my own thing and not have to worry about my kid or pay much attention to them" Seems obvious, but the parents who were more involved with their kids and played with them/watched them never had to baby proof much beyond the biggies like outlets. The ones who wanted a big sterile bubble were the ones who wanted to have a worry free afternoon sans baby.

I can honestly say her recipes she posts have always been fantastic that I've tried (her lasagna is the bomb!) And it always was so refreshing to me to see her photos- that look GREAT- it her actual kitchen!!! No staged 3-point lighting, no props. Burnt old pans and flour covered counters.
I knew from her blog her kitchen was small but wowza. I remember having a kitchen that size and know the pain, it just makes it all the more impressive.

rosebud- i'm not sure but my guess would be flavor enhancer. If you left the leavener out of cookie dough it wouldn't taste right- hard to describe but almost like "flat" cookie dough. Sodium Bicarbonate is a flavor enhancer just like salt, so that's my best guess.

Every tarte tatin I've made always has puff pastry for the pastry element, never pie crust. To be honest, this is the first time I've seen it done wit a pie crust.
Maybe that's why people have sticking trouble? It's incredibly simple- just cut a circle of puff pastry (homemade or store bought) to fit the pan and sit it on top the cooked apples. No pressing or fussing. Done!

First time I made it I have not so fond memories of forgetting my frying pan was a billion degrees from the oven when going to flip it and grabbing the handle bare handed! Yikes!

Bread at Thanksgiving: Do or Don't?

I always stuff our turkey and we have incredibly moist turkeys (too much so, some years!) and stuffing cooked to appropriate temperature. If you know how to cook a turkey, I don't think it's hard to stuff the bird.

Our stuffing is a meal in and of itself! It's really moist, just spicy enough, tons of seasoning veggies, and always with tons of chopped fresh gulf shrimp. It wouldn't feel like the holidays if I wasn't hunched over the kitchen sink peeling shrimp for my mom! We end up eating too many spoonfuls before it ever makes it in the turkey!

I look forward to holiday baking! I can't explain it but certain recipes- certain cookies, rum cake, etc in particular, I feel like I'm only allowed to make around the holidays!
That said, the only pressure I get is often that I'm pretty advanced when it comes to decorating and Christmas cookies and the like, rather than homemade messy cookies of my childhood, family and friends have come to expect elaborately piped, glittered, cookies and treats. It's quite an undertaking!

This is my first year with a baby too, which takes a huge toll on my free time. Leisurely nights to bake a cake for the next day have become frantic rushes to get things in the oven and cleaned up in time to not fall asleep at the sink!
