One of my coworkers named her daughter Aryan. I know it's a common name in some parts of the world. She does not hail from those places. Obviously we can name our children whatever we wish, but given the baggage associated with that word why would you? I really hope my face didn't reflect my thoughts when she introduced us.

I love hidden neighborhoods. The Guilford neighborhood in Baltimore is semi-hidden. It is bordered by main roads, but the interior has the feel of the English countryside. It has manor homes, a few cottages, and a tulip garden.

Lots of things could seal the deal for me, but a windowless bathroom puts the kibosh on a deal quicker than any other detail.
Nearly all of the new construction I've seen has windowless bathrooms, it reminds me of a college dorm. Isn't that horrifying.

Fellow Floridian here!

As we lived off a canal, alligators were a common sight. We invested in a pool fence when my father discovered three hanging out in the deep end.

We also had a family of raccoons, bats and our neighbor's troupe of escape artist tamarins to contend with from time to time. The raccoons were entertaining to watch when they weren't stealing citrus, knocking over trash cans, or attempting to open the back door. The bats ate a lot of mosquitos, but the tamarins can be pretty imposing for an animal weighing less than 1.5lbs.

Florida, the only state where you can legal own just about any animal. Oops, forgot about Texas.

Talby,

I feel your pain. I'm a chemical engineer with a minor in geology, my physicist boyfriend, finds my "little field of science" to be cute and amusing. Grrr

I think I'm dating your boyfriend's brother, similar build with the same sleeping habits. He talks, snores, and giggles in his sleep. I have been on the business end of an elbow on several occasions. I'm not a light sleeper, but am frequently awakened by his nighttime antics. Separate beds would be heaven.

If we can get his sleep apnea under control I might consider<body>

I used a combination of Boric acid and vinegar to eliminate or at least hold a bay, an invasion of roaches of all sizes in my old apartment.

Both Boric acid and diatomaceous earth work to dehydrate roaches, but they can be slow to kill the colony. As for vinegar, it won't kill roaches, but they seem to be put off by the smell. Of course you may also find the smell objectionable. I wiped down my bathroom and kitchen counters with plain white vinegar daily and left a bowl of vinegar on my stove.

After about a month they moved on, but I continued to apply dry Boric acid to their hiding places and I keep a small dish of vinegar on the stove just in case.

Uptown Girl I had the same problem finding bread sans HFCS. Roman Meal has several breads that are sweetened with molasses, honey or brown sugar. I've listed a few you might like to try.

Zohreh, do you recall where you got the green occasional chairs in your living room? They look so familiar, I believe I've seen them in a beige/oatmeal color in the past.

Thanks

Perhaps the chandelier is an indictment of the ideal of the "perfect" woman that Barbie represents and this is an attempt to hang that ideal in effigy.

Or maybe it's just a facocta attempt at a kitschy chandelier.

What beautiful colors to combat the dreary Michigan winters.

Can anyone tell me where I can get those great green chairs in the living room?

Hi Jade,

I bought the Ava desk frame from PB last year for $300 and the glass top for a Parsons Rectangular coffee table from Crate and Barrel for $129. You can have both pieces delivered directly to the stores and save yourself shipping costs. Scroll to the bottom of the Crate and Barrel page for info on glass tops. Good luck!

Not my cup of tea, but it would work in a basement or a garage workshop.

Surely we're intelligent enough to express an opinion without using classist, pejorative terms such as ghetto.

You hardly ever hear, "Mmmm... Not so much. It's a very trailer trash look"

My boyfriend has FP dishwashers and we've used them daily for about 2 years with no problems. And we don't pre-rinse. As with any mass produced product there are bound to be some lemons. I would guess these people and some of the other posters who've had bad experiences fall into the "I got a lemon" category. I've got a POS Bosch washer/dryer combo that I would like to take a flamer thrower to so no company is perfect.

Sidebar, does anyone know where I can find a chair like the one to the left of the sofa in the first picture? Would it be considered Chinese Chippendale?

Love the fluidity of the mural.
