This is just the style I am going for, but I need some sources a little closer to home in Australia - any one have suggestions or favourite places?

Just had to comment but agree with most other comments - training and exercise. I have two hyper-energetic terriers that are bred to hunt, dig and destroy but a good run in the morning and some snuffling/exploring time and they come home for a nap! Mine are left alone in the house unconfined all day while I am at work. They have their toys, they don't bother with my stuff - they know what they can and can't do and apart from using anything soft on the ground as a bed and moving the dog toys around there are no problems. Training, exercise and positive enforcement of the rules mean my dirty socks on floor are ignored but their sock toy gets dragged in and out of the house all day and I couldn't care less.

I've got the ideal shower mentioned in the post and hardwood floors (great with dogs) but what I really want is a purpose-designed mud room! With dogs, horses and lots of outdoor chores it would be great to have somewhere to dump dirty clothes, shoes and equipment before coming inside.

Just like @ERIKAN I want to know more about those bold print curtains in the first room - anyone know anything about the fabric?

As per previous comments - where would I find a plant stand or night stand like the one in the first photo?

Another vote for peel before freezing! Only froze them once with peels on and it is not a pretty sight trying to unpeel half frozen mushy banana. Peel, wrap in plastic, then freeze.

Popcorn maker is my one beloved single-purpose device - popping with hot air is just so much nicer than in oil and it doesn't take up much space.

just a thought, the bed lying down is not actually too big, its just right if you consider how deep the bookcase is and how thick the bed is - there are two of each matress piece and you can see through the sheets on the bed that there are two halves, so basically it makes 2 single mattresses out of 4 shaped pieces. Geometry at work.

Or if you live in Australia like me we are surrounded by it! This is where it is from after all. Go for a walk in summer and you would get the effect described all around you in the air. Always makes me think of home when I see eucalypts growing in other countries.

@ Kakugori - now you have me thinking about chocolate peanut butter pie! Would you share the recipe? I love making chocolate peanut butter balls and bars but have never made it in a pie! Thanks

What about on upholstery? I stupidly moved some freshly made mini chicken and leek pies to my kitchen table and one dripped a bit of buttery/oily sauce on an upholstered chair. It doesnt have a removable cover so I can't put it through the wash. Will try the talcum powder for now.

Depending whether you use your fireplace or not, why not put the TV under the mantle? I love fireplaces but some places I lived have the mantle still but the fireplace was removed, or the climate makes fireplaces useless so just under the mantle or on a low tv stand in front of the mantle can work.

Don't stoop to fake fireplace DVDs though, thats just wrong.

I've twice had a bad smell in places I was renting and turned out it was something really easy to fix - some old light fittings have a plastic in them that eventually degrades and smells really bad, like a dead animal or worse. Only smells when the light has heated up the plastic a bit. I was able to pull all of this type of plastic off, crumbled away actually, or you could replace the fitting.
