After 18 months of serious searching, the Monte Luca glider ended up being the clear winner for me as the best modern rocker out there, upholstered or not. After sitting in it for 5 minutes, my research was affirmed and I purchased one on the spot from Posh Baby in Portland, Oregon. Seriously the best thing ever! The glide is smooth and not too fast, the arms are the perfect height/angle and the back is tall enough to rest your head on. Each comes with a stylish, lumbar accent pillow, too. I saved up for a bit because it's a little pricey, but there is no sales tax in Portland, so shipping costs were basically canceled out. This is a chair I would gladly put out in my modern living room well after the child is grown. I agree, I think the combination would look great. I have the Hemmers dresser, a white crib with a wood drawer, the pine trofast system from ikea and a wood-colored rocking chair and small side table that all look great together.
