Tobermory,
That's either a Sanguisorba menziesii or a Sanguisorba canadensis (common name - burnet).

went to a sneak peek on the 14th - see one see all...late in the season opening means that there is no extensive summer products...biggest plus - easier access to Red Hook

oh -great idea - we have an old untuneable Wurlitzer that we couldn't even "dump" for free on CL sitting in our hall - I was thinking of turning it into a piano "bar" but didn't know what to do with the guts? now i do!

I echo the kudos Pam - very fresh and inviting and shows off your art beautifully.

A side-note about IKEA - don't be ashamed! Come out! I think that every 1 in 10 pieces they produce is a keeper. Its interesting that quite a few folks on AT bash the Swedish place yet the # for the free IKEA living room keeps getting bigger and BIGGER!

As the original "...crashser..." nowhere do I state that I disdain the concept of CB et al (though for the record I don't like the PB aesthetic). I don't have to defend my actions to you - I am and have always been an avid supporter of CB, but I couldn't let your snippy little remark slide ;)

I'm looking at the issue right now and unfortunately this was one of the few features where they don't mention the colour. But you could go to your fav paint shop and have them do a custom colour match.

Whilst I agree that this combo may be considered dated by some it also happens to be quite classic and timeless - I'm doing an open concept living/dining/kitchen condo in a similar scheme - and the classics really never go out of style. I always feel that when folks are quick to label something as dated its just like their saying that they are only into whatever is trendy.

My home office is done in BM's Caribbean Teal which goes perfectly with the dark wood moldings and I'm using Crystal Lake in the condo (its an Ace paint/shade but I'll have it matched in BM).

FYI in the past week or so there was a Color Splash, Divine Design (2), Get Color AND a Design on a Dime that all used this combo. But don't let that stop you!

P2 - 5 yrs running and we've never had a problem or gotten any attitude for lounging there - plus we're pretty damn sure that CB has probably sold many a couch because folks passing have observed how comfy we were...(not that i can prove that)...
J'wo maybe we should inquire about commissions for the lovely vignettes we've presented over the years.

Not surprised - i worked w/ both the Publisher & Marketing Dir on a previous book and they really tried to be passionate about it but....

HA! Like Starbucks indeed. My best friend and i are both very busy but we have a tradition of meeting at CB (on Houston) every 3 months, stake out a comfy sofa and catch up for a couple of hrs! We've been doing this for the last 5 years!

It would seem that the "improvement" in the design does not in any way alter the quality of light for these types of bulbs. I imagine that as the designers intended, their goal was to make the shape more visually pleasing versus improving the quality of the light. So the design discussion in this instance seems more pertinent.

The endless possibilities of what can be done with them, especially for folks on a budget has a lot of potential for marketing them - if they ever find a manufacturer. Think of the myriad chandelier ideas one can create using those connective sockets discussed a few weeks ago? Or a series of pendents down a long hall-way or over a kitchen island or a multi-pronged floor lamp. With a few of these and a bit of imagination one could rival any creation from the likes of Maurer or Wanders. One things for sure - it would be BRIGHT once they warm up!

I did something similar to this last year in my front hall - I used low low wattage bulbs that came up to 100w - haven't had any issues, some times we even leave it on all night - i do plan to expand it but again i don't think will be a problem.

thx tlf! Actually some friends of mine have "commissioned" me to do the roof on their condo! Am in the research phase right now - I've already designed the layout, and looked at the structural integrity of the roof - am now looking at plants - using the list from the roof for the Chicago city hall as a starting point.

Am a research analyst - but i've always had an eye for design interiors & web), so it was actually pretty easy to the outdoors.

would love to learn more though - you can contact me at anaguy@hotmail.com

Deb - Thx for the advice - rest assured the beds are no longer bare, but I'll take the Clover suggestion under consideration as I'm still culling the list of ground covers that will eventually tie together the entire scheme. I've spent ages researching appropriate plants for my zone, looking at texture, form, colour etc. and don't want to take any short cuts not after all this effort. When I'm done I just want to be able to go outside with a drink and relax, roll around on the grass with my daughter, pull the occasional weed and deadhead as needed.

As for the Kid's pack flowers, I'm not planting any annuals in the yard - with the exception of comos which are fillers for the mo. I do have some strategically placed accent ones - Zinnia Envy and Dianthus Kawara Pinks that have already come up. But I abhor those generic packs - it's the control freak in me - I know what I want and where to put it. I like a lot of meadow type wild flower gardens, but not for this space.

My overall design was based on low maintenance architecturally interesting perennials that once established didn't require anything but light pruning. When these pix were taken the Verbenas, Agastaches, Echinaceas, french Lavenders, kniphofias, euphorbias, echinops ritros, were mere seedlings, now they are coming in. Plus there's a Rhamnus Fine Line, a Cornus alba "Sibririca" and Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks' that have been put in along the 'east' side for added height.

I originlly consider Clematis Josephine for the fence, but having had to remove the horrible old vine that was originally there and the hell that took, that idea has been nixed!

I did become a little too obsessed though (as my family will attest to), and even wrote a proposal complete with scale drawings etc - to myself! But we'll see how it all turns out!!!
