You can have a delicious BLT this time of year by mixing chopped, good sundried tomatoes with your mayo. As a bonus, you can take your time eating as there's no soggy corner to race ahead of.

You can usually find succulent mix potting soil in any nursery. MiklakMiklak is right about the watering. An easy way to remember is to not water them at all in the late fall, winter, and early spring. I have lots in San Diego and they've all been happy on this schedule.

I like that these can not only be re-cycled, but look much easier to up-cycle and make fun stuff out of once they're a little less hangy.

At my dad's ad firm in the 70's/early 80's, their conference room was a huge conversation pit. Picture a small upside-down plush devo hat. It was red, round, and tiered and my absolute favorite place to visit. I'd love a modern version in our library.

One of my best friends growing up had this set-up in her family's amazing historic home in San Diego. The shower was behind one door, toilet another, and a third had a sink and vanity. The ventilation somehow worked; they used this system for many many years. And the compartmentalization also had the effect of smoothing out the morning among the not-so-cozy siblings.

I just read a little tip in a travel mag (can't remember, I had a stack): use a hair dryer to dry your toothbrush before packing it.

My husband just got me the Lapster from Levenger. It's spendy but the curve-around-your-body shape is great, the legs snap closed and stay that way magnetically, the center props up, a handle pops out, and there's a built in wrist rest. They do have a variety of other goodies that cost less. http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/NAVIGATION/Preview.asp?Params=category=17-722|level=2-3

You can also research the title history of the place. Have your realtor help. How long were the previous owners there? The ones before? If you've just got a few long-term owners in the last 40 years, it's probably a very comfy home.

Thank you, commenters all.
I have a similar situation with downstairs neighbors smoking on their patio, which is on the same part of the building as most of our windows. I didn't want to tell them what to do on their own patio, but I am only 30 and have already had breast cancer. The smoke Terrifies me.
I was going to just learn to live with the sinus problems that air conditioning gives me. But since I know I'm not alone in being really bothered, I'm going to try talking to them first.

this was my South African father-in-law's extra-special afterschool treat when he was just a kid. He popped it on the stove when he got home, hit the books, and by the time his homework was done, so was his treat.

Since my husband started roasting our beans, this is the only other coffee we enjoy, and happily. Last time we were in Portland for 4 days and drank 14 cups.

Not enough, due to our craptastic iron. Mostly works out ok for our clothes, but I have to just get through it as best I can for sewing & embroidery projects. I would be the most excited about sticking the rowena to my sheets, which are high quality but get crumpled almost to death by our dryer. No matter how quickly I get them out, they're a mess.

The Ace Hotel (again) in Portland has covered some of the walls in its restaurant, Clyde Common, with an old tome on butchery. Clever devils.

Some of the best neighbors I ever had grew meyer lemons in their front yard. Not only did they give us picking permission, we'd often come home to find a bag of lemons hanging from our doorknob of we hadn't been by in a while. We miss you, billy & bud.

I agree with rbeardsl, AND th bread is freaking amazing. I'm addicted to the French Mountain and Sourdough. The latter actually came out of my freezer after five months and after following their re-heating instructions, blew away any other sourdough I've ever had. I also got a cheese sampler for Hanukkah and it was fantastic.

The rocks will certainly buy you time, but there is always going to be some water trapped in the bottom unless there is a hole where air can circulate and excess water can escape.

We love ours too and use it a ton in sunny San Diego. Beverages and cheese boards (steady for the slicing) are so much more enjoyable.
