Books are only clutter if you don't read them. My partner and cull through our books every spring and if we dont want them we put them on the front walk.

It's truly liberating to let go of things. My main method is to clean up my stuff, neatly label it, and set it on the sidewalk. That ensure that whomever takes it actually wants it.

During one move I unloaded approx 40% of my belongings that way. The ONLY object left was a perfectly workable, if old, scanner. It was amazing to come home after work and see everything gone.

Gorgeous! I really like the use of cool/warm colors against each other. I've tried and its tricky to get just right.

The space looks really inviting and sophisticated (a killer art collection always helps on that end)

Word of caution: put a lip on the edge of the shelf. Depending on your structural stability if you close your door often(and or hard) items will inch forward and then topple.

I'm fine with the bed against a window, provided it is centered. Off centered things really bother me.

Lucky for me the window in our bedroom is off center on the wall, so we could center our bed on the window and still have room for a dresser.

One thing I cannot handle is sleeping against the wall. I'd rather sleep on the floor.

Taboo Bed Placements That Actually Work

When we moved into our new apartment the old tenants had a pretty simple solution. Our bedroom is directly below the upstairs kitchen - so it gets a lot of traffic.

The old tenants went out and bought cork squares and somehow affixed them to the ceiling.

It's not 100% soundproof, but compared to the rest of the house it's amazingly quiet! Can't hear their yappy dog, the gunshot sound of high heels is definitely muted, and the voices disappear into a dull buzz.

Not to mention it's sort of a neat aesthetic in the bedroom.

I've always been amazed at how expensive duvet covers get.

That being said I loooooove a duvet. I swore it off for years and then finally caved. We got the 2-in-1 down duvet insert from Ikea: 1 thin for summer, 1 thick for spring and fall, clipped together for winter.

It's amazing!

We also went with the sort of satiny grey Ikea cover. I forget the exact name. It's meh...but I don't like brilliant colors in the bedroom.

We have both a kitchen table and a dining table. The dining table doesn't get used for food much, but we do use it for computer work, landing strip etc.

I'm not sure what to do about the kitchen table. We never use it, but then what else would we put there? Its not like that particular space is very versatile.

I like the space but it feels a little spare. Maybe a subtle rug or something in the middle of the floor.

And definite kudos to BJ holding the bananas.

mail and dress shirts. Not in the same place. Mail piles up on the dining table. Dress shirts pile up on top of the dresser.

While stunningly gorgeous I see little practicality. Constantly wiping those white counter-tops, dusting those white cabinet ledges, and living in constant terror of spaghetti sauce and red wine.

Um... what happens when you walk up to the table, smash your toes into the side and fall face first across the surface?

Much as I like clever designs I like functionality first. Like a recess for your toes - same as your kitchen cabinets have.

I love the simplicity of just a duvet, but it gets a little drafty in the winter time.

I've never had a problem assembling anything from Ikea. It's not my favorite thing in the world. And why is it a revelation that Ikea, just like anywhere, requires some wise choices.

I have the same Ikea bedside tables and the same Ikea bookshelves I bought used, and have had both for 5 years.

Yeah, no. I'm still a hater. We had these in every room in the house growing up. They just remind me of cheap faux 'country' decor.
